Brick made ISU football relevant again. Certainly way too early to be giving up on him, the staff and this team going forward. Certainly not happy w last 3 weeks but I believe we will continue to be a good program
I may take that bet.

I'm thinking UNI assumed we weren't allowed to throw a deep pass .. that looked too easy.

Closing this score up will help our playoff chances .. UNI will be highly ranked by end of season. The committee doesn't care when you scored ... close losses to NDSU, SDSU, and UNI will not look bad in eyes of committee.

Doesn't change fact that we played horribly today ... but Ill take playoffs any way I can get it.
Ok, put down the Kool-Aid and step back slowly. There will be NO PLAYOFFS this year. The OL and DL are both only marginal. Special teams are horrible. Coaching is questionable. QBs and RBs would be good if there was a good OL in front of them.
In the words of Ernie Banks, "wait until next year". This season is over. :angry-cussing:

People forget how young we are, particularly the defense. This group does not have to make a deep run in the playoffs to benefit from the experience. If we can make the field and maybe even win a game, we will benefit greatly from that next year.

Just got done watching the game and yes we lost the battle up front. It was a little bit of everything. Sometimes it was a lack of strength or a blow assignment but a lot of it was being slow to the punch. You expect that a really athletic DE will take advantage of a OT on occasion but we even had a nose tackle using his mobility to beat our C. We played the top teams in the conference the last 3 weeks and it showed. When you lose the battle up front then the players behind them don't look good and when you give the other team some gifts it gets even worse.

The next two opponents are ones we can compete with. We have to win the last two and see what happens.

Frankly, I am not surprised. Everyone got too carried away with early season wins against really crap opposition. Colorado State really sucks so even that win is nothing to get too hyped up about. A young team with some really good upside to look at down the road. I don't think this is a playoff team and they really do not deserve the playoffs even if they somehow get a bid. After the MoState game, everyone should have taken a close look at this team and the QB position in particular. I hope they finish strong but it is now about next year.
I have enjoyed ESPN+ this year...watching the Women's Volleyball has been more fun than watching the football team this year. Go Lady Birds!

For a program like ISU the youth excuse bothers me. It is definitely a factor but top programs should rarely have to blame youth for lack of success. NDSU, at extreme, is able to perform at the highest level in FCS year after year yet youth does not seem to stop them. ISU does not have to be NDSU but they should be performing better than 500 ball over a 3 year period.

agree one of use needs to step away from the koolaid .. in your case, cyanide laced. The season is not over.

When the FCS committee is looking at teams, they aren't mired in the negatives like some posters here are. So assuming for sake of this argument, we win the next 2 games:

- First, they will see 7-4 record which is really 6-4 from the MVFC.

- Next they will see a 4-4 MVFC, with 3 losses against top 10 teams by average of 11 points per game. They don't belabor over the things that fans do .. they look at outcome and final score only.

- Then they will see how we easily beat an FBS, beat a pretty good WIU by 17, beat SIU by 48 .. their worst beating of year by far; beat EIU by 38, also their worst beating of year.

- And they will also remember that we've been ranked most of the year, including 13th after losses to both NDSU and SDSU. Granted UNI was a sh-t show, but final margin was 10 points on the road.

Massey Composite has us 17th as of today .. 5-4 against 7th ranked SOS. By time all the subjective polls come in this week, it may be closer to 20. So if we win last 2 games, we will climb a bit in all the polls. From there it depends on who else is on the bubble with us.

But this simple fact remains as true today as it was since we began complaining when they first put STX on the schedule ... if we had beat any other patsy that day like we do every other year instead of STX, we would be a playoff at large lock at 7-4 coming from MVFC, with 3 losses to top 10 teams and an FBS.

That is how stupid this STX game will go down in history.

Granted, we still have to beat InSU on road and YSU at home still ... but if we do, all eyes will turn to AD Lyons.

ChiRBFan ... the point I and couple others have made about youth only speaks to lot of 1st year starters including RS FR. It is not mentioned as an excuse really. It's just an explanation that probably explains why we looked so promising against lesser teams, and then really struggled against tougher teams. I think it makes a difference when you do or don't have battle-tested people who have been thru the ups and downs, and are better prepared to deal with it. Veterans are more likely not going to get overwhelmed into under-performing like a RS FR or 1st year starter would. If a veteran team collapsed like this, I would be far more worried.

I still love this roster depth and age spread ... so I refuse to ... wait for it ..... throw the "baby" out with the bath water ... youth ... baby .. get it ??

Unfortunately, we were even worse than I thought. Making the playoffs was totally out of the picture. Next year we "only" need an OL a DL, much better special teams play, a good passing offense, better coaching, etc.
