Yeah, thanks as well for sharing that link. Not gonna be worth a damn at work tomorrow, but momma told me I would have days like that.

I watched a replay of the game last night and I think the coaches will enjoy watching the film as well because it's NOT that good. Coach Spack can smile with a 16 pt. win over a FBS program but there will be plenty to work on this week because lots of opportunities were missed.

Davis was under 50% passing (14 for 29). Some of that was on the receivers and some of it was on him. As noted he can complete difficult passes that require a strong arm but he can sometimes miss on easier touch passes. Lots of missed tackles on defense. Devin Taylor won the MVFC defensive player of the week award. That's a surprise because had good plays and bad. Nice Int stepping in front of the receiver but a bad pass interference play when he didn't turn a look for the ball. Overall I'd say our corners held up very well because that was the strength of the Ram attack. CSU isn't a great team defensively and their run game isn't deadly, but they did come into the game rocking a first-rate passing game with boastful numbers.

So Coach Spack can do the Nick Saban thing in practice this week and be grouchy in victory. He can tell his team, "hey don't get full of yourselves because you left a lot of plays out there and you're NOT as good as you could and should be."

Maybe he can come up with a catchy phrase for that. I know, he can call it "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection."

Some of the clean-up is going to be easy. The biggest for me are option routes. I'm glad we're running them don't get me wrong. But I saw 3 occasions where the receiver misread leverage. And that's what TV let me see. I'll bet Beathard/Anderson drill the hell out of that this week.

A lot of it was on Braxton Haley. So many drops. Don't get me wrong, Davis can clean up ball placement for sure, but man, Haley had a game to forget. 1 catch, 8 yards. I wish there was somewhere that listed targets because he saw a ton of passes, just didn't convert.

One guy who did though was Andrew Edgar. 5 catches, 111 yards, and making himself a presence that defenses are going to have to focus on in the passing game. He's turning in to a really nice compliment to Schnell, and in order for Schnell to keep putting up numbers we needed someone to step up. Glad to see the young guy is getting it done.

Zackary Matthews had a nice game on D. Credited for 10 tackles and 4 QB hurries. Good on him.

Most importantly though, great day for the O Line. I'm guessing the rest of the league is trying to figure out what to do, and it's really nice to have that going for us.

I like Haley but he does need to clean things up some. It's not like he doesn't have the skills tbough .. were benefiting from easy early schedule. I really like Edgar though ... he is a late bloomer with all the weight he's put on since HS ... he could be a stud by next year. And Schnell is no longer the very good "possession" receiver like I thought he was ... he is a simply a very good receiver, period

The thing that stood out most to me was the number of drops Haley had. From the stands, I'd put more of that onto Davis than I should have. But, man, the only place we don't look loaded for bear is WR. And kicking. One thing is crystal clear - that color guy from the MW crew had a little man crush on us. ;-)

How about that O-Line and Robinson putting that safety on an island? Huge play to put that game out of reach.

Watch the safety give up on that play ... he wanted nothing to do with getting trucked in open field ... watch the replay and how the safety turns into some old rickety grocery store turnstile .. spack would bench that guy for couple games for giving up like that.

The little quarter cut was just devastating there. If Ed Reed were in that safety's spot right there, the exact same thing happens.

The ONLY way to stop a guy going that fast with that much space is to run dead at him. If you hesitate and try tackle off to the side, you are dead in the water.

He only adjusted his course like 2 degrees, but the safety was so far away when it happened and Robinson was going so fast, he had to flat out guess and lunge at any first movement.

maybe .. but his closeout and angle was horrible. And his body language screamed, I don't want this anything to do with this. He made no football like move. He almost cowered to avoid contact. It just looked so timid .. last line of defense .. got to try something even if just to slow him down so someone has has a shot.

Turf does a lot for the offense on a play like this.

I didn't see it as lack of effort. I saw a defender that was frozen because he's weighing his options in a microsecond and none of them are good. The O-Line gave Robinson a great opening to burst through and like the veteran he is Robinson knows what to do next. Finish off the lone survivor! He knows he has a man directly in front of him but time/space and momentum are all on his side. He doesn't need to stutter step or make a dramatic move. He just veers slightly to his left and continues his acceleration. If the defender reacts perfectly he might have lunged and caught a foot but really his fate was sealed when Robinson confidently went with a subtle but deadly effective high velocity move.

Contrast that with Smith's TD reception. Smith has a defender bearing down on him and he does need to make a lateral move to avoid being cut down before he gets started. Smith does a hop to the left making the defender miss and then he accelerates quickly. For a guy known for power running he sure makes an elegant dance move and then outruns the defense.

Yeah - these guys are special.

I'm done lurking on the CSU fan forum. Here's a summary of their thoughts about the game Sat... They blame the loss on inadequate strength & conditioning and poor coaching. It's safe to say they are extremely upset at being pushed around by a lowly FCS. Gotta admit, I agree with a lot of what they're saying about their coaching staff. We get zero credit from them for being a good football team. Just thought I would share.

Yeah, but if we would have lost to like a D2 team, regardless of if they were an undefeated D2 team the year before, you'd be looking at our team's problems instead of looking at the opposing team's mastery, too.

I know it isn't exactly the same, but we had quite the uproar 6 weeks ago when someone suggested SXU might give us a game. We didn't talk about how SXU was coming off an NAIA championship level season, we just talked about how if it was close, it would be damning of our team.

Exactly! I’m sure most of you played football, but on the defensive side in open field (as a player who’s been there) if he’d made that tackle, either he luckily made the right guess on the move, or he’s NFL worthy right now. I think eagle eye view of a game slows it down over 50%; on the field JR’s figuratively moving like lightning at that point. Great point TR.

Maybe we got wires crossed ... I am talking only about Robinsons long run, not Smiths catch and run, where he completely jukes his guy in open field. San Antionio, you responded to post on Smiths catch and run.

So on Robinson's cut on safety ... i don't see what you guys see. I see a safety who never get his feet or body ready to make a play, nor even tried to make a play .. almost like he purposely took himself out of the play by closing out so much in a vertical position. Watch his footwork ... he never even lower his pad level or readied his legs/feet as Robinson came at him ... zero effort to make a football play. Any chance he was cornerback who got sucked inside ? Because he looked nothing like a safety on that play.

Anyway .. it doesn't matter. I just was struck by how timid he looked.
