Has losing Yaklich contributed to the decline?

Unequivocally, yes!

I will be the first to tell you I do not want Yak as our head coach, but there are some telling numbers about our defense when he was here vs. since he left.

Kenpom since Muller has been here our average defensive efficiency rating is 90th.

The Yak years our average defensive rating was 61st.

The year and a half since he left we are at 164th.

Also, for fun too put it in perspective for the Jank fans or haters.

ISU average offensive rating under Jank = 131 - defense 93.

ISU average offensive rating under Muller = 139 - defense 90

and Janko looks a lot better if you take out the awful 2011 team. Without that he drops to 93 in offense and 81 on defense.

Is this just Missouri Valley Conference games, or does this include that awesome Non-Conference schedule that Jank had?

Includes everything.

To compare SOS on Ken Pom. Muller has an average of 105 in SOS. Janko average 135.

ISU Defense. Even if you put some lipstick on this pig it is still an ugly pig. I feel that a lot of the defensive problems are due to coaching. The zone defense is "slightly" better than the man in that it helps the bigs stay out of foul trouble, it helps rebounding, and helps to reduce bunnies under the bucket. But even the zone is often played incorrectly. Some players (MY, Boogie) will guard space instead of the player in their zone. Then they don't recover fast enough to contest a pass or a shot. Maybe the loss of Yaklich is part of the answer, but defensive coaching could definitely be improved.

For those wanting Yak as the next HC, he's not ready. And, frankly IMO, Beilein isn't doing him any favors by having him be defensive coordinator. Sounds good and all, but that really limits his exposure to the offensive side of the ball.

One other thought for ISU on the offensive side of the ball, Duhon convinced Muller to change and implement a new offensive strategy. It's the strategy Duhon helped install at Marshall. So that may--and I mean may--have something to do with our struggles at times. Our struggles could also be personally inflicted, too.

So HE'S responsible for the weave? No thanks. Never been a fan. We run around while the defense stands. Let the ball do the work and make the defense run around. I wish our opponents would weave.

:text-+1: weave/motion offense can be awful to watch at times..gotta have guards/players than can eventually receive the pass and get to the rack or create an open shot. otherwise agree it is painful to watch as the offense becomes a four corners stall

The stats say ISU defends the 3 well. My eye test says otherwise. If other teams are shooting a poor percentage versus ISU from 3, it’s not because ISU is covering them. I remember BYU missing many wide open 3s.
