Charlie Fisher has officially taken an assistant coaching job at Arizona State. Jared Elliott has been promoted to WIU head coach.

that sucks for WIU .. they find good coaches, but lose them fast. Can only assume the financial outlook forces them to consider options. hope the new guy keeps them competitive.

Geez, Elliott has a pretty short resume to be a HC, if I've got this right:

2017 - Co-OC at WIU
2016 - QB assistant at WIU
2013-15 - Co-OC at DIII Carthage College
2012 - QB assistant at WIU
2010-11 - graduate assistant at Miami (Ohio)
2008-09 - Asst. Coach WR at DII Missouri Southern

God bless him.

I'm going to guess that Elliott a very cheap contract versus even what they were paying Nielson and Fisher. With Fisher, not many guys are going to turn down a 6-figure pay raise ($100k-$150k) to go work in Tempe vs staying in Macomb. Nielson left for about a $50k a year base salary raise to go to USD, and I'm guessing the disparity would have only grown with what he made at WIU versus heading to USD. I would also venture USD has a better bonus structure for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if Elliott's base pay is under $200k and only a couple years guaranteed on the deal, maybe with a low buyout. It may have been too late in the game for next year to get a good candidate and keep the recruits coming in. Elliott being young can put HC experience on his resume, get a raise, and a chance to prove himself. If he succeeds in this role, he probably won't be long for Macomb either.
