Serious questions:

If a jump is made, does anyone here have an idea of where the $5M NCAA fee comes from, how the university justifies it, and will a new president want to take that on if it happens after July 1? Would the interim president and AD be willing to go there prior to July 1?

Does anyone know where the BOT stands on this?

A move up would come in the midst of the university borrowing to renovate a facility for the new COE (I don’t believe the state is providing funds for that.)

I can’t imagine that the athletic department has that in reserves. Plus the university has already allowed the athletic department to build the IPF, much of it funding came from university reserves.

Now why on earth would you be concerned about that ?

Let's run down this list of rumored MAC targets for the 14th spot.

Missouri State - Heavily rumored to announce joining the CUSA within the next year
Western Kentucky - Rumored to be staying in CUSA or going to a higher conference (could very well get the call to the Sun Belt)
Middle Tennessee State - see above (probably staying in CUSA)
North Dakota State - Rumored to be waiting for the Pac-12/MWC shoe to drop as they would rather go west. Could revisit at a later date to move to 16 if they can't go west
South Dakota State - see above
Stony Brook - Not ready for the jump but it is a New York (Long Island) market and would give UMASS a travel partner and New York City area their second FBS team
Illinois State - It's very possible everyone else passes and Illinois State gets an invite if they want one. Would they take it?

I’ve heard MTSU is out on MAC. Heard WKU is reaffirming CUSA if MSU joins.

Assuming your TV revenue ia greater, you could take a bond or finance with incremental revenue albeit you may have other incremental costs

The MAC schools are typically running about +$1mil to $1.5 mil annually more in licensing than ISU. That includes our friends up in Dekalb

I don’t know how many extra people drive from Bloomington to Normal for that.
Whay do people have to attend? many will watch it on some form of “tv” and that is valuable too . Big ten media rights payout dwarf ticket revenue even for teams that sell out 100k stadiums. Eyeballs watching from where ever is what matters most

Did you forget Frisco? Imagine football people care about actually close by.
I definitely remember. It's not often that I go to an FCS football game where I'm not an outlier. It seemed like all 20,000 people there were just like me, hanging on every play. Unfortunately, 3/4 of those people were Bison fans even though NDSU is a smaller school. I didn't see that game as example of amazing support for Redbird Football.
Our fans did not match the quantity of NDSU fans that day, but we did meet or exceed them in quality. When Tre Roberson dashed to the endzone to put the 'Birds ahead late in the 4th Q that stadium ROCKED, even with 3/4 of the people standing there looking stunned.

You think a Tuesday night vs NIU equals the FCS national title game?
I would love to be able to watch Redbird football on week nights. I get it makes attending games less appealing for some but for me watching a week night football game would be awesome. I also enjoy Monday night and Thursday night football as much or more than watching noon games on Sunday.

Truly a great game. I still can vividly recall when we went from nearly sacking wentz for the win to him chucking that high pass that was somehow caught near the 5 yard line. And to ndsu’s credit they went for 2 and that entire play was like slow motion to me. Though we loss I was absolutely so proud to be a Redbird while walking out of the stadium.

ISU’s rights and licensing revenue already doubles ticket sales with 2022 totals of $2.976 mil vs ticket sales of $1.426mil. These are down from 2017 highs of $3.9 mil and 1.9mil. Covid and losing has not been good on the athletic department revenue from operations.
