Some great names from the past. For me it’s Brad Duncan, still the best pure shooter I ever saw at ISU.

I seem to remember Vandeguard as the face of the program for 2-3 years. Chad-o-matic was a great free throw shooter....and an even greater guy.

I felt like I was breaking the rules with Vandegaurd. He was option #1 if I remember his last year. Those guys were the first ones I remember seeing. So they hold a special place in Redbird history for me. I was pretty young when they were playing. For the Roberts team I think I was 5 or 6. Crap now I'm showing my age I guess.

Hard to say a name in this thread that's hanging in the rafters.

Many mentioned don't fit the definition of obscure (not discovered or known about). Players in the 1000 point club hardly classify as obscure.

That said, I nominate TPguy. Much boasted about on here, but can't find any mention in historical reference material.

Someone had earlier mentioned Dale White, one of Donewald’s first recruits.

I had a couple of classes with Dale. Nice guy, but at 6'-5" he may have been the worst dunker I saw at ISU. i remember a couple of dunks at Horton Fieldhouse when he failed to "stick the landing" and tumbled awkwardly in front of the bleachers. I could be wrong, but I think that Rick Lamb and Dwayne Tyus were in that same Donewald recruiting class.

Dinma might be one of my favorite players of all time, obscure or not. His growth from his frosh year to his senior year was absolutely amazing. I wish more players had his work ethic and desire to improve their game.

Thank you much, but of course I could not play under the name “TPguy” in those days. I was only 17 years old when I played at ISU with Doug Collins and set the NCAA assist record my Senior year. To this day I can’t reveal my real name or Doug might lose his silver medal from the 72 olympics because I was training him. I wish I could have been the one on the cover of Sports Illustrated but for the above reasons had to bow out and give Doug the honor.

I was also playing for the Harlem Globtrotters in the off season and had to lie to keep my amateur status at ISU. I was the one that invented the phony bucket of water trick being thrown into the crowd.

Someday I look forward to my grandchildren being able to see a statue of me beside Doug’s statue.

By the way if any of you run into Doug don’t ask him about me, he has promised to keep this a secret until after I die.
