There's another issue no one's mentioned yet which is that the original poster said that this was posted on the basketball board because some don't go to the football section often. I'm not sure that's a legit reason to post this on the basketball board so it probably shouldn't have even been posted here in the first place.

Also my point in a previous post was not to say whether or not anything is political, but that in this specific instance there was a post that asked how would a 14 year old get a hold of guns and others responded to that. My broader point is that in today's climate, posts dealing with guns and school shootings on this forum are problematic and have the potential to devolve into what occurred.

Considering 75% of the site traffic (in relation to posts) is in the Men's Basketball forum I'd say it's safe to say it was okay to post this here.
It's fine posted here. This guy has made 3 posts all on this thread. He's either a regular hiding behind a second moniker or a lurker with an agenda.

tojo, who the Hell do you think you are? This is Quinn's board, butt out. He'll let you know what's appropriate or not.

I can't go to sleep. The more I think about this the more upset I get. If this is allowed to stand then what's next - canned soup in the frozen food section of your local supermarket? Either there's order to our society or there isn't.

To Total Red, I agree, but it's not worth losing sleep over. To the original poster, traffic doesn't matter. This is a basketball board and you're talking about a former SIU football player, so this is more appropriate for the football board if at all. To tpguy, Quinn has been MIA and I'm allowed to express what I believe to be appropriate or not. To Timmy, the only times I've posted is when it's been a politically-charged topic like this or the tax law. Besides these couple instances on here, I've just been lurking on here reading Redbird men's basketball and football topics.

There's clearly a couple issues here. One, a non-basketball thread being started on a basketball forum. And second, the fourth post in the thread diverting from the topic asking why a 14 year old got a hold of guns. I really can't blame anybody for then responding to that posed question. Asking how a 14 year old got guns opened the floodgates for political discussion. If the purpose of the thread was to honor the ex SIU football player, then the first post that diverts from that isn't fulfilling the purpose of the thread. Also comments referring to the NRA and rednecks aren't helpful.
