This is a MAJOR problem (mismatches) imo that is not going away unless we change defensive strategy. BUT...our bigs HAVE to recognize when the guards are mismatched because of a switch out top and GET BACK TO THEIR BIG MAN. I'm surprised this hasn't been talked about more on this forum.

I can't believe the color guy just spent 2 minutes singing the praises of the wonderful dichotomy of Judson's resume and the innovation of Dakich.

...and all we can draw up is chucking and missing 12 threes. Fantastic.
4 guards and a 4 will give us this result unless a guard is EFFECTIVELY getting inside perimeter. 50 games has shown us this over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

With that said, let's go BIRDS!!!!

Coach wants us to win the paint battle every game. That's a great goal and we are winning the battle 18-16. However, achieving it doesn't say much when 18 of our 21 points were scored in the paint by the same 2 players. Great for Burford and Foster but that is just embarrassing and it says a lot about our offense. The other 3 points came at the free throw line.

I'm good with it IF it creates better TEAM play and rhythm. Take a looksie and tell me if it does.

Interesting that we did not see Walker in the first half. The way Foster dominated in there, I figured it was a no-brainer.

Sorry, you can’t defend even EU with 4 guards( especially a 5’10 one) and a 4, even if you are giving plenty of weak side help, which the Birds aren’t right now. They just isolate and go to the rim. Also, where is Davis?
EU only scored 27 points in the first half. The problem is not the defense. The problem is 0-13 from beyond the arc. Defense wasn’t a problem in the last two games, why, because we made shots. I’ll take giving up only 27 points at halftime every game. I don’t care how well you play defense, you ain’t getting a W if you can’t make a damn shot outside the paint.

Even with weak side help we give up way too many buckets on those guard mismatches. And it isn't the guards' fault!
I agree that a system that has bigs jump switching instead of dropping isn’t the players fault and 11 can’t do anything about his own size, which requires extra attention to help. What I haven’t seen today was the level of defensive intensity by everyone- trying to beat opponent to spot and weak side help that we saw really for the first time at home last game( I didn’t see Mo State). the Redbirds were fine with Foster & Lewis on floor to match up. I dont understand why Walker isn’t getting minutes against these guys when Foster is out. We are missing Davis’ size at the 3(unfortunately also 4) spot.

Yep but you've got to look deeper. WHY aren't we hitting shots?? 222....chime in.
