So this is 2 pretty big potential impact players we have lost this week. Anyone concerned yet?

Horton, yes. But delaying a true FR (Smoot) a year to get their academics in order ... zero concern. Or did you mean someone else ?

I would be surprised if he ends up at ISU. I think he is reopening his recruitment.

that was like 4 months ago ... but I got no love then, so I used it again this week. I'm nothing if not a tad persistent by nature.

I am. Horton was a huge loss. The only way we get better than last year is if Bethard truly is an OC genius. I figure they'll need to score a lot of points, which means Kolbe will have to really take a step up.

Fortunately Bethard is an OC genius and Kolbe is capable of going to a higher level.

Admittedly, a threat about Smoot is a weird place to add this, but I ran across this in an article about NDSU's Ethan Stick a few weeks ago. Haven't been able to confirm the list at nfldraftscout.com.

"The website nfldraftscout.com has Stick as the highest-ranked FCS quarterback prospect for the 2019 draft. He's ranked 19th among all college quarterbacks, ahead of FCS players like Gage Gubrud of Eastern Washington (23rd), Devlin Hodges of Samford (28th), Taryn Christion of SDSU (41st) and Jake Kolbe of Illinois State (45th).

By comparison, the 2018 quarterback crop includes FCS prospects Kyle Lauletta of Richmond (seventh among all QBs), Jeremiah Briscoe of Sam Houston State (22nd), Bryan Schor of James Madison (27th) and Chris Streveler of South Dakota (31st)."

Not sure if this implies that Kolbe is considered 5th best in FCS or not.

With no critical commentary on Kolbe specifically, 45th best draft-eligible QB is nothing special.
