Have to say it .... but he's got people filling his head with some rediculous expectations when he's being lightly recruited ... NFL ? Patriots ? Tom Brady ? Yet he's coming here and he played at a small private HS with just 700 enrollment ? Not adding up.

Agreed that the comments about the NFL are high school hyperbole. But small school does not necessarily mean lack of talent Some solid ISU QBs came from small places like Dusty Burk and Matt Brown.

According to IHSA, Joliet Catholic enrollment is 644. Chicago Phillips is 575. That acclaimed QB factory of Rochester is 770. There can be good players at small schools.

Rochester (Derek Leonard) just added another QB to the list. Clay Bruno signed LOI with Western Illinois yesterday.
(QB) Nic Baker, (WR's) Avante' & D'Ante' Cox (twins), and (T/DT) Chris Koerwitz are all at Southern Illinois. Was hoping they would have been Redbirds, but Spack never offered them.

my comments were based entirely on my mis-reading that his coach was being quoted the entire article and that the kid was eating it up. So even my pointing to the 700 enrollment was a related point in my questioning why a HS coach would be filling the kids head with so much rediculous hype playing at such a small school.

I read too fast and missed fact that it was his teammate. It is still rediculous hype, but he's a kid supporting his teammate .. not the coach.

I still wish him well and apologize for misreading it.

Maybe Iowa and Iowa State didn't see him as a QB prospect, but that philosophy brought us Kevin Glenn.

Anyway, even if those FBS programs passed on him as a QB, I'm OK with a QB recruit that UNI and South Dakota State were after.

I believe UNI landed the freshmen qb they had this year bc some FBS teams wanted him on defense. I am all for that. There are multiple FCS players who went to FCS schools bc FBS schools saw them at a different position.
