This is unfortunate news. I look forward to the day in about 20 years when schools do the right thing and make a move back to natural grass/dirt to decrease these types of injuries.

I’ll be the first to say that I have no clue about the turf, if it caused injury or statistics on turf v grass. Tend to think it may have merit. However, isu will not pay maintenance costs of grass.

I love football on grass. Much more fun to watch IMO

Turf has more stress on ligaments. Think about it...if you cut on grass and slip, you create a divot and fall. If you ut on turf and your feet get caught, your knee gets jammed and bends at an awkward angle.

Feel bad for Davis and Proctor. Bad luck. Hopefully both recover fully. Moving forward this season:

Construct a game plan that allows Baltz to have simple reads. Even half field reads. Start the game Saturday by throwing. Get him some good safe looks. Get the ball out quickly and build his confidence. He’s a better athlete than people might think. Get him on the move to throw to THE TIGHT ENDS!!!!!!

I’m more concerned with someone stepping up to help JR in the run game. I think Baltz will be ok. Having a full week of practice as the starter will help a ton. Which RB steps in to take the 8-10 touches that are needed?

Need to be flawless in the other 2 phases and limit penalties.
Yes. Half field reads. Buble screens. Stick routes. Curl/flat. Try to get Edgar the ball in space. Some speed option and read option with Jefferson.

So it was a torn ACL. I ruptured a quadraceps tendon and my knee is still not right. Anyone know how recovery time for an ACL compares to that other than one's on the top of the knee and the other's on the side?

Of course it depends on how bad it is. But if all goes perfectly, he could be ready at the start of the season.

Thanks. I thought 9 mos sounded pretty optimistic.

Virginia -long post but worth the time. Thanks. ThumbsUp- I was a Hatfield fan and I was surprised when he changed positions. I liked what I saw in a few snippets of action. I probably overrated him as a passer but I also liked his mobility and I know I didn't over rate that ability because he was a RB before moving to safety and he looked good there. But you're right that ship has sailed. We'll see what Baltz and Jefferson bring to the field. Rise Up Redbirds

Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I know I get long-winded at times, I will attempt to be more compact but don't hold me to that. I was a Hatfield fan as well. An athletic kid that seemed to be able to run and throw but maybe the move to safety will be good for him. The coaches have the ability to see them play and practice every day.
I hope both Baltz and Jefferson step up on Saturday but at least one of them has to. When opportunity knocks ... grab it by the throat!

Spack said, That would be their advice to him (instead of trying to play professionally). Refering to Brady coming back.
I'll have what Spack is having!

We need offseasons reps to work on our timing, familiarity, and confidence ... twe need this more than any other top tier MVFC team. Missing Davis for all ofvwi winter and spring is not good. Getting him back by summer OTAs will help some ... but this 9 month recovery will set us back.

Barely completed 50 percent of his passes, and averaged 142 passing yards per game in 2019. Spack needs to be looking for a FBS transfer to bring in.

I would've loved to have seen what Brady could've done with all his receivers healthy, like that game against Northern Arizona. Next year our receivers might be the strength of the team. We'll have Edgar, Grimes and Casper, and now it looks Taula is starting to be a weapon at TE. The sleeper is that Tristin Baily. He's that tall receiver we desperately need.
I just think we need an experienced QB next year or all that could go to waste.

This current WR group is so young but the potential seems to be there ... both quality and quantity ... so agree this could be the strength of our offense next season. But the RB group as a whole should also start to emerge .. though looks right now like they're a year behind the WR group. Also agree on TE Taula.

Kudos to offense for starting to find the TE !!!

Maybe, maybe not ... I like the way Brady responded to the early season adversity. Part of our pass game problem was Davis .. but part if it is on coaches (too skittish) and receivers (injuries and youth). Davis needed to take hard look at himself and he did. Now coaches should do same ... including Spack ... they are the common denominator.

For 4 years since Roberon/Coprich, we have had a top 10 roster/team on the field that struggles for consistency on offense ... that is on coaches to figure out why and modify their approach on offense.

I haven't been a big fan of Davis, not that either of the backups were better options (maybe they are, I just couldn't make that argument). Just always thought Davis should "get better". Get his mind right, forget about the "going pro" attitude, etc.

BUT - having another year might for sure help him get it together. If you think of his couple-three years of sitting after HS (RS freshman year, injured RS freshman, played one game soph), he could very well come into his own, especially as pointed out with a more experienced and solid receiver corps.

While I wouldn't mind a decent FBS transfer at QB, it might be, if Proctor will be out next year, a transfer RB would help more.

Oh, and by the way, Markel Smith, your table is ready . . . . oh, never mind! ;)

I honestly wish we just pick a starter. One of them should be prepared to run the offense. I fear this is about as effective as co-offensive coordinators.

odds are, they both will struggle at times ... too much is unknown for both, better to keep options open and pan to play both in this situation. Bette than pretending you know which one will work out .. because then what happens if you have to bench your new starter ... as opposed to platooning them. The latter allows you to change QBs without it being viewed as benching. I like it given siutation.

Now that we know that we are in the playoffs, and we know what we have behind Brady, which is not much at this point, I think we go with Jefferson and leave Baltz’ redshirt intact. Jack Baltz as a redshirt senior will be far better than Jack Baltz as a true freshman and he’s not good enough NOW to waste that year of opportunity.

I agree and think all your points are very obvious...so Baltz probably starts against SE Missouri State, right?
