The summer between junior and senior year is a HUGE time for AAU recruitment.

U gotta believe Pedon will full court press him with his genuine approach. I’d imagine he paints a picture of Johnny K, Cole handling shooting guard role and Pence at the 3. And I’d guess Pedon’s nature is to include Cole in on many events and building camaraderie with roster - that’s an advantage we have over P5’s. Pedon will sell the home cookin.

We’re in a 25 year drought - Cole Certa will look great on the float in the Big Dance parade. Cole can b a real factor early on in the MVC!

The world of the portal, this may not mean much. P5 schools will offer a kid so they’re on their radar and wait to see which transfers they can bring in before taking an offer back. That said, I would not be surprised if this is a commitment sooner rather than later. Whether Illinois or not, there’s enough B1G smoke that he’s a B1G recruit.

Why okay that he’s likely gone? Isn’t this the exact person we didn’t want to let out of our own backyard?

IMO, Maturity seems to be an issue. He's got time to work through it between now and next year. He's very talented, just from what I've seen and been told, he believes he is destined for bigger and better than the MVC and won't be convinced otherwise.

Again, just from what I've been told, the staff might be focusing closer on the kids from NCHS-Webber, Roman, and Walker.

I’ve heard (I have not seen him play much) that he doesn’t play any defense. So I guess if you want just a sharpshooter then he’s your guy. As Adunk said plenty of time to “grow up” and develop, but all the P5 attention is a bit weird with what I’ve heard about his game and attitude. Hell Pence outdueled him.

Yeah, I’ll admit I’ve never seen the kid play. But these power 5 coaches watch a lot more basketball than any of us do. If they see something there must be something.

We will see how it shakes out, but after this season? A guy who can put the ball in the hoop? Yeah I like the sound of that.

Would the fact that we already have a pretty good 6-4 (same as Cole Serta) shooting guard committed to Illinois State maybe affect his decision to want to come here? That same recruit (Ty Pence) just dropped 41points on him a few weeks ago (Cole had 22)

Ty is much bigger physically than Certa is right now. Not saying he won’t had more muscle in the next year and a half, but pence is already college game ready body wise. He’s also bigger than 6’4” Would guess he’s probably 6’6” I’d be excited to have either, have seen both put on a show this year multiple times.

Yup. Pence is more of a higher scoring KLew. Certa is a 2 guard. Spot up, shooter that can slash a bit.
