what play are the redbirds running? high ball screen pick and roll? every time? really?

lots of talent on the roster, set a few screens away from the ball. stop making it so easy to scout. move the ball, make free throws, make the defense work. fayne and yarbrough are kiiling it. imagine what they would be doing if they didn't have to beat 3 players before they got the shot off.

The offense this year is the one Duhon brought from Murray State. Not sure if that helps or not.

Then Duhon called one amazing play at the end of regulation to get Phil that shot. That was sweet.

Side note, this game was featured on SVPs bad beats segment last night, with ISU playing spoiler.

If someone finds it online, please post it. I tweeted to Stanford Steve (his cohart on the show) because he posts them sometimes.

Right. I just grabbed the first M school that came to mind . . . notice no P5 M schools came to mind.

--That said, guards, for the love of all that is holy stop throwing bounce passes at Phil and Rey's feet. Throw it up, hit them in the chest or up high so their momentum can carry them to the bucket.
:text-+1: :text-+1: :text-+1: Now this is a helpful post! There were at least 3 passes to Rey's feet.
Bigs don't catch the ball with their feet. Those are turnovers that can be avoided.

100% agree. I counted 5 instances in the game where the guards did it. That drives me absolutely nuts. Our Bigs would be a heck of a lot more effective if we could catch them in stride rather than having them have to stop, grab the basketball, and then get covered by a defender.

The bounce pass in the lane is a great move...if executed properly. Watched Loyola make the same move successfully in a recent game a couple of time. Totally fooled the defender and resulted in a layup. You don't see that often at close range. But agree, the pass can't be too low. Same with a pass to an open shooter. Boogie has had a couple in the last games that he caught at his ankles. Gathered it in a shot anyway. Those passes generally result in a missed shot if they have to adjust to the bad pass first. Better to pass again and wait for a better opportunity.

ive noticed the same thing about Boogie. he shouldnt be shooting off those bad passes. not only does he have to re-gather himself, but it allows the defense to close out and get a hand in his face. would be better to make another, better, pass to try to find an open man.

Agree. If it's low, do the low-rip move and drive past them. It's ridiculous to think you're going to get a shot off if you have to gather yourself into shooting position after receiving a pass at your ankles. The action is way too fast at this level...at least it is for our team

I think the Bad Beats segment might be more highlights than the Birds have gotten on Sportscenter in the last 10 years combined ;)

It would be very ironic and very Redbird-like if we make the Dance with this team after a 21-year drought. Word.
