I really don’t care what route Payton’s recruiting path takes, just so long as he eventually ends up a Redbird. I think he’ll be a stud at ISU, and sincerely hope we are fortunate enough to acquire this talented young man.

Can I please ask the obvious question as to why a Home-grown kid who verballed ISU....then backed out to test the P5 waters..:.is now taking official visits to Valpo and SIU?

Wasn’t the explanation put forth that he thought he might go bigger than ISU?

Valpo and SIU are not bigger than ISU. If the waters did not land bigger offers, then why is the kid not re-committing to ISU?

Where is the explanation of what is going on here?

Am I missing something?

Unless it's because Muller doesn't want him anymore i think he'll end up back at ISU. Why do you care so much if the kid tkes visits? It's his future. He should look around. Did you date a few girls before your wife or just pick the one first one that came along?

Perhaps he is thinking he does not want to be so close to home. It happens. Being the hometown school is not always an advantage. And it's possible Payton was hearing that he would get P5 interest but it has not happened yet.

I was thinking the same thing. Even he is taking a few official visits why hasn't he lined one up with ISU?

Dan has/is recruiting over him. He doesn’t want the competition.

Why would he need an official visit to the university that has allo2ed him in their facilities for a couple years now including being behind the bench for home games. He's pretty well acclimted.

Has anyone confirmed how Payton did on his ACT or SAT score? Just wondering if
he's qualified academically.

Bloomington’s Chris Payton is an absolute enigma as a player. Is he still a top five prospect in the Class of 2019 in Illinois? He certainly has it in him.

The physical gifts –– the wide-shouldered body, the explosiveness off the floor, the way he moves when he wants to –– are clear. The production on the club circuit, however, has not matched the potential he possesses. The flash he shows has not been followed by the substance. It’s going to be interesting to follow the recruitment of Payton going forward. But if you’re a mid-major program, you still have to be extremely intrigued by the potential be brings.

I am kind of over Payton at this point. I was dissapointed when he pulled his comittment, but seeing who we have recruited, and thinking his stock is down now (maybe was never that real good in the first place), so it goes. There was some excitement because of the local ties and UIUC offering him early and Peyton quickly picking us over them, but wherever the young man wants to go, good for him. If it works out that he wants back and HCDM wants him and has a spot, great. If not, I wish Mr. Peyton well.

Coach Muller once told me "the best thing a recruit can tell you is 'yes', the second best thing is 'no' so that way you can stop wasting your time on them."
From another thread but it applies here.

FYI, I have seen Chris play. A couple of times, once recently from pretty close range. And I think he is good. And I would like to see him as a Redbird. Just sayin' we will be OK if he decides, or we decide to go another way.
