How do you know there is "more offense" on the bench?? Have you been to practices?? These coaches spend a lot of time with these players.

I agree with Reggie's observation - this is the only place Bo-Peep is posting, thus, has to have a personal interest in one particular player - we have seen this on the men's basketball board a couple of times over the years - the most recent was Zach Lofton and Nic Moore.

Madbird was referring to a poster on the football and men's basketball board who goes by the name of crazzymark - he was not calling a name - just making an observation that the type of posting is similar.

Just a guess and you can watch the players warm-up before a game starts.

Pre-game warm-ups??? Are you kidding me. There are a number of players, who, for whatever reason, can shoot 60 percent in practice and warm-ups, but about 15 percent in games when it counts. There is a HUGE difference between live game action and practice.

That's your assessment? Are you saying the starter are shooting 60%?

I know back in the day scouting football I would get there for warmups and leave after the national anthem.

Do the same go for the men? I see they average (9-12 players a game).

Actually, some of the guys hitting the most shots in practice - Tinsley, Gassman - are having some of our biggest struggles in game. It's a lot easier to hit a wide open shot, hit a set shot, or make an uncontested layup. Heck, we missed a lot of uncontested layups last year during games too.

Right now, there is nobody on the active roster not playing that I would say, "Put this person in. We could sure use them versus what we have out there." Ultimately, players have to decide: do I want to continue at this school with a free education but understand I will not play or do I want to go elsewhere? For some players, it's stay. They are making good academic progress, they value their free education, they enjoy the resources we give our WBB program above many other schools, they enjoy their teammates. Others may decide to play their last 2-3 years somewhere else. We have some players who are still redshirt candidates this year.

If Goods is going to miss several more games, I would consider giving her a RS this year and save her full season until next year.

Well, there's also the possibility, actually the hope probably by all parties, that at some point either the light bulb will go on, or physical improvements or improvements to techniques will occur, that would allow these kids to play. The 4 ladies who aren't playing - one freshman and three sophomores. Plenty of time to get there. And watching the Milwaukee game, one of them had a major league knee brace on, maybe that's a factor at this point.

I agree with some of what both of you guys say (Reggie Redbird and MadBird), but way not be honest with these ladies in the beginning. Let them know, You will get a free educations and be used for practice, put a a uniform, and be used for a photo-op. If they are good enough to recruit they should be good enough to put on the floor.

I remember last year four players was hurt at the same time. God forbid, what if that happens this year? Now you are trying to re-group, with ladies you paid no attention too, or developed. This goes for the men and ladies.

Haven't the Lady Redbirds played a game since the Butler game?

Yes, but the conversation, keeps going on here. It's no longer about the Butler game. You can start a new trend if you like.

Ok - I am always skeptical of people "griping" about playing time.

Yes, Butler played 12 people - however, there are TWO important details left out - ONE, it was a blow out game and you sometimes give other players game action - TWO, the minutes played by four the players for Butler was 1 min, 1 min, 3 mins, and 7 mins - not like we are talking much more than token time.

I looked at the roster - most, if not all of the players not playing for ISU were brought in by the previous coach. I would tend to give the new coach plenty of leeway on who is playing and who is not playing.

:text-+1: I know very little about the ISU girls basketball team but generally speaking, beyond the first 7 or 8 players (maybe 9), it does not make a lot of sense to play players beyond that number unless there are injuries/off the court issues (see ISU men's team) or there is serious foul trouble in a particular game. Teams need to develop a rotation and flow. Running players in and out like they are on a team in elementary or junior high school is a tough act unless a team is winning or losing big time and the outcome is already determined.

1.) The players sitting out were not recruited by the current staff. Perhaps they would be "good enough" to play by the previous coach but perhaps do not meet the expectations of the new coaching staff. I can't say for certain, but it would appear by some players not playing that they are not ready to see the court.

2.) I'm guessing you are connected to one of these players based on saying "way not to be honest with these ladies in the beginning." Perhaps I'm wrong, but that indicates you know a player was told she may have an opportunity and is sitting the bench. That would be on Gillespie if she actually told a player she would play them X minutes a game. To me, if they are getting an opportunity to play in practice, then they are getting an opportunity to show they could add a greater value during the game than going with a very short rotation.

Would the easier thing to do would have been for Gillespie to cut players' scholarships who she wasn't truly interested in retaining and bringing on some 5th year transfers, JUCOs, and walk-ons to take their place as emergency players for a year or two? I'm going to guess most new coaches would want open scholarships coming in, especially if the expectation set is she will get at least 2-3 years of recruiting to get enough talent to really compete again in the MVC before the expectations rise to the level of what this program should expect on a regular basis.

Bo-Peep = women's board's crazymark!?

Okay, are you trying to say UConn is winning by 30+ points per game because they play 12 people? Or is it that the bench gets cleared when the top 6 or 7 blow someone out?? One lady is averaging a minute and a half per game, another 4 minutes playing in 5 of 7 games, etc. They have the top 6 averaging 25 minutes per game, and another at 17.

I'm willing to get a ways into the season before I get to griping about PT for people. Normally I'm all for playing as many as you can, they only get better if they get a chance. But it's hard for me to believe Coach G isn't going to play anybody who can help her.

We can have a conversation without calling names.

Your opinion is your opinion and I respect that. My opinion is my opinion and you will respect that.
Because I can guarantee, you will lose in the name calling category! So just stick to the subject.
Side bar as I enjoyed this banter....I got my money on MadBird in the name calling contest since he already labeled you Crazzymark.

:text-+1: Has anyone every watched the finals of a high school 3 point contest? Many of the finalists, both boys and girls, are often players who never see meaningful playing time in high school basketball games. Shooting and making a shot in a controlled and relaxed environment is a lot easier than making a sudden/quick/contested shot in a game.

I have watched high school basketball, but not a shooting contest.
