This thread is hilarious. Timmy has been posting forever on a number of topics and Bo-Peep has literally only posted about how the bench never plays for the women's team. I bet they could win the Valley Tournament and Bo-Peep would still complain that the bench didn't play enough.

A few thoughts:

1.) Gillespie is getting much more production and results from a team consisting of Smith's players and recruits and a few of her own she got late in the game. It's not like Gillespie went out and played a much worse schedule than Barb was playing. I would guess several of the games were already in place before Barb was fired.

2.) Does two coaches choosing to keep particular players on the bench say something about their playing time prospects regardless who is coach? Barb didn't play certain people and she even recruited them. Playing for your job, you play the players you think will win you as many games as you can.

KG comes in and is trying to build her own program. I think some players are getting the message. I would reckon that the recruits coming in for next year plus the main returning contributors for next year will make up the main rotation for next year.

3.) BoPeep, I respect your ability to have and profess your opinion; it is completely your right. However, I believe executing that opinion would result in a lot more turnovers, a lot more missed shots, and a lot fewer wins. It appears you have a connection to a player, and that is influencing your opinion. Please, feel free to correct me, but I believe we should state factors providing bias to our thoughts.

There are certain games where we get down too much we should then play the bench players to save legs. However, giving these subs 10 minutes in the first half is recipe for disaster.

Not Complaining ekeyfanclub, Just making observations and conversation. I was not aware there was a rule you have to post on every trend in order to have a conversation. :hand: :naughty:

It still would be nice to see the bench implemented into the game.
I think this will take some of the fouls away from the starters.

I kind of pushed back when you brought this up a while back, but it IS hard to believe you couldn't squeeze a few worthwhile minutes per game out of the rest of the bench. Doesn't have to be 20 mpg, but4 or 6 or 8 from each of the "bottom four" of the roster seems like it could be done. The men's team is getting pretty good mileage from some unlikely spots. On the other hand, an 8 "man" rotation isn't that unusual.

I saw in an article in recent days that Van Hyfte hasn't played this year due to knee injury. Not sure if the idea is that she'd play at some point this year or if she's taking a redshirt. She played a few minutes per game last year as a freshman.

lol,

My recommendation would be to let the starters play the 1st 5 minutes of the 1st and 2nd quarter and the bench play the 2nd 5 minutes. The 3rd and 4th can be a mixture. According to who's producing or having a breakout game.

My recommendation look better and better.

At this point in the MVC as of 1-28-18, going on last year, Smith and Gillespie is tied for losses.

Barb was 8-23 overall and 4-14 in the MVC last year. Care to make a bet if Gillespie’s 8-12 team has more wins than Smith did last year? Because they took so long to fire Barb and hire a replacement, it gave the staff less time to recruit. They still got a starting FR PG and a good post in Goods. Other than that, it’s Barb’s roster.

Based on kids signed vs kids returning, two scholarships have to open. I wonder if that plays in to playing time because two kids have to leave unless we have two kids RS and two give up their scholarships.

But wait—there’s more: ‘Birds go all the way down to Dogtown and beat the #4 Salukis for a 2nd time tonite. First 3 game winning streak for the ladies since the 2013 season when they won 25.

Coach Gillespie is restoring the will to win; the same young women who played with their heads down last year have become warriors with the belief that they will win every night they play.

Can’t wait for Coach to get her own recruits next season. Get your tickets now before they’re sold out!

I think coach has made decent change in the current roster that has been already groomed and experience from ilast season. It would be great to see the same level of investment in the current roster or even given an opportunity to move up in rotation . It will take time for a new freshman class to come up n mature.
