You don't have to make this political, VBoy, just sounds like another screwy direction you wanna go in.

I fashion myself as more conservative leaning than anything if you have to know. If being fair is socialist to you, whatever you say. I think the playfield should be the same for everyone, as crazy as that sounds to you. Maybe a little more sane than to tell 26 other conference members they need to move to another conference immediately like you say. Have a wonderful evening.

I don't know what ISU wanting the leave the Valley has anything to do with this discussion, VBoy. As usual, you avoid the main issue. The system is fixed. The ISU's and St. Mary's of the world are told they don't play anyone. Those teams we are supposed to play WON'T PLAY US. Do you have anything to say about this? Rather than your usual rant about how we stink, and our conference stinks, and we basically don't deserve to exist?

That's why I won't be watching. I like to think there is a modicum of fairness involved in something I am willing to have any interest in. You can keep watching this special powerful club play amongst themselves if you wish.

I will be watching and rooting for every underdog team playing! If/when it gets down to just the power teams playing I'm done. Have no desire to see the Dukes, Kentucky's, Syracuse, Arizona, etc play!

Wichita knows this. Gonzaga knows this. Temple knows this. Xavier knows this. And so on and so forth....

So let the dog eat its thing. Doesn’t mean we have to like watching it. I plan to watch little of the tourney. I didn’t watch much last year and didn’t miss it.

Get into the tournament, get to at least the Sweet 16, rinse/repeat. Once you do that consistently, you’ll start to get P5 teams to come to our place and you’re on your way

This right here is the roadmap to getting respect in the NCAA. Win, and win consistently and we won't have to worry what conference we play in. Get to the NCAA, make a run and get our name on the national stage, and then come back the next year do it again, and again, and again. If you want respect in this NCAA environment you have to take it.

This validates the sentiment that P5s with losing conference records don't have much business being in the field. May as well let in a couple mid-majors instead.

At-large teams with losing conference records don't last

Since there was such an interesting bubble this season, it stands to reason that there are a few teams in the field of 68 that underwhelmed in conference play. But this year, an NCAA tournament record five such teams were given at-large bids (Alabama, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Syracuse and Texas, all 8-10 in their respective conferences). The previous mark was three in 1991.

The past four teams to receive at-large bids despite sub-.500 conference records lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament, and it has been a long time since any such team advanced to the second week of the tourney. In fact, it has been 13 years since an at-large selection with a losing conference record won more than one game in the tournament (2005 NC State), and the only time such a team won more than two games was 31 years ago (1987 LSU).

When it comes to winning in the first round, it has truly been a 50/50 proposition. The 36 teams with losing conference records to receive at-large bids have an 18-18 mark in the first round, with Illinois (seventh seed) and Minnesota (11th seed) being the last to win, in 2013. Winning a game is one thing, but winning the two needed to reach the Sweet 16 is another, as only five of those 18 first-round winners have been able to do that. Last year, Kansas State played in the First Four as an 11-seed despite its 8-10 record in the Big 12, and while the Wildcats defeated Wake Forest to reach the round of 64, they advanced no further. Arizona State and Syracuse will face off in the First Four.

I understand some of you will not be playing and I totally respect that, but some of us are do this just to talk crap to old college friends and spend $20, so I'd like to see how I do against you guys that I've been reading for like 4/5 years but never feel like posting.

Agreed. From what they displayed tonight, I think Syracuse and Arizona State provided evidence, via an "eye test," that they would indeed likely be beaten by the likes of several teams in this year's NIT.

Good luck to the Ramblers. Loyola Chicago is the only team I wish any success for. I would be happy if LUC made to the Sweaty16 but could I also wish that the Ramblers advance farther or look better than the Shox?
