Why would we want to screw up our out of conference SOS/ RPI by playing Northwestern, DePaul, or U of I?

Hope Dan is at least pinging the Smith camp.
I saw people on here ruling ISU out and suggesting P5s way better than the shitbag bottom feeding P5 he could NOT succeed at. Is a move up the food chain really realistic if his PT at Shitbag P5 U (Illinois) dwindled all year?
Looking for a better fit can mean almost anything, and worthy of a phone call to find out what he's looking for.

Hate to admit this but I am sure any non power 5 school that tries to call him will get an automated text back saying he is unavailable to talk to them.
The worst that can happen is he say NO, and then move on. Dan said NO is his 2nd favorite response from a recruit.Trey_Guidry4three said:ISU FAN 1 said:https://www.theintelligencer.com/sports/article/MEN-S-BASKETBALL-Social-media-turns-ugly-after-12732575.php

While I agree with the sentiment, ISU also has recruiting budget, what Dan and staff can spend on trips, home visits, etc. I'm sure it's not infinite. They also have to take time to build relationships and there is limited time you can talk to or contact a recruit.ISU FAN 1 said:The worst that can happen is he say NO, and then move on. I never like the prevailing sentiment on here that certain players are too big for us. I hope Dan doesn't think that small, or another 20 years of drought, and much coaching turnover, awaits our fan base.
Really just referring to the Smith situation, and making a phone call to explore. Not suggesting we start going after the Bagley's of the recruiting world. Although wasn't Jank the first on Anthony Davis? Certainly not suggesting breaking the budget to chase every 5 star. What harm can come from a simple phone call?isuquinndog said:While I agree with the sentiment, ISU also has recruiting budget, what Dan and staff can spend on trips, home visits, etc. I'm sure it's not infinite. Andrew Bagley III was not coming to ISU. Ever. I don't care how much Dan could have or would have recruited him. I don't care if Doug Collins went to Andrew's house and recruited him (which would have been illegal I'm sure). He wasn't coming to ISU. Dan should not waste time and resources on a recruit like that.
But I agree that he should go after those 3.5-4 star recruits. I just don't agree with "any" recruit shouldn't be off limits. There are some. Not many, but some.

Was Dan recruiting him last year? If so, was there any interest?
