Quit from not getting off the bench Transferred to IWU Had to go back 39: years 1983. That’s the HOI

Not that he made a huge impact but Zach Griffith from Fisher played for the Illini last year, and was on the team for his entire college career.

He was a starter that wanted to drink, party. and join a fraternity. Donewald kicked him off the team for that. He played 2 years when I was at ISU (I'm dating myself). Worthless fact - he played on our intramural flag football team after getting kicked off the basketball team.

I don't know crap about the HOI conference. I just looked it up to see which schools were in it so i could follow the conversation. I saw Flanagan and knew Bradsick.

My personal thoughts are recruit the best players that fit your program ... i don't care where they grew up.

On a side note, I think having players from different parts of the US and other countries is a great experience for the players. I had three daughters run cross country/track on college and as a parent I thought that was great experience for them.

He did average 20 minutes a game for his 3 seasons.
He started 25 of 29 games his Jr year and played 29 minutes a game. Averaged 9.2 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Not insignificant by any means.
He played a lot his soph year too. They don't have the minutes and starts on that website but I would guess he played about 20 minutes a game

He will never be in the ISU hall of fame and he may have never reached his full potential, but he contributed more than a lot of players that put on the Redbird uniform.

Hard to get in the hall of fame playing almost 40 years ago when you get kicked off team.

I don't recall Braksick getting booted, my understanding is that he choose a new environment at IWU. Maybe it was mutual, but I don't understand the value of dragging his name through the mud here. I'm sure it was a lot more complicated than a few here are positing.

Braksick could get called for a foul while going up for the opening tip.

Having said that, he was runner-up for Mr. Basketball and an unanimous AP All-State selection in 1983. He also signed a contract with the Milwaukee Bucks.

I'm guessing we were not the only D-I institution to cast a line either.

And let's be honest. In this day and age, a players high school performance may be the smallest part of the equation. All the games and exposure before/after a high school season is the major barometer.

Tinsley and chastain were from the hoi. That’s within the past 10 years. What is your point? We should ignore a kid from the hoi because buffet1 thinks all kids from that conference are garbage and should play at eureka college? Last I checked we aren’t fielding a D1 team of hoi kids. Taking a chance on one of those has gotten us in the same boat as the project from Florida who never develops or some decent power 5 transfer that can’t play.

No I wouldn’t. HOI is for Eureka college
First, we're keeping tabs on the kid. We haven't offered Funk. What does that mean? Means the kid has enough talent that the staff wants to see how well he develops and if he'll be good enough for a MM D1 roster. Maybe he'll develop into the type of player we need. Maybe he won't. We'll just have to wait and see. But if we don't wait, we won't see, and we may miss out on a really good player.

Second, lots of good--even great--players come from small schools in small school conferences. There was a kid outta French Lick, IN comes to mind. You're obnoxiously pious about the size/quality of the conference. Talent doesn't care where you're going to school. So Funk plays in the HOI. He also plays in a bunch of AAU tournaments across the country, against talent from big schools and "big" conferences.

Third, you seem to be suggesting you're a better judge of talent that Pedon and his staff. Have you watched the kid play in both HS and AAU games? Do you have a list of skills, attitudes, and aptitude to legitimately scout a player's ability to play MM D1 ball? How has he ranked on those? If we send your rankings to Pedon, do you think he'll read them?

Finally, is it just the HOI that bothers you? If so, then you must've played and lost to those guys. A LOT . . . That's the only way I can guess that you'd have such an all-encompassing negative view of the conference.

You asked for a Division 1 player from the HOI, I looked up the teams in the conference, saw Flanagan and gave you Bill's name. I even posted a link to his stats in that post.

You said he quit from not getting off the bench. I should have refuted your point like I did in my subsequent post indicating

"He started 25 of 29 games his Jr year and played 29 minutes a game. Averaged 9.2 points and 5.6 rebounds"

Others are right .... I didn't need to bring the other part .... it was irrelevant.

It was a great point by ISU86 that Bill was runner-up Mr Basketball in 1983. I had forgotten that and wished I had made that point.
