It is probably going to get tougher to get power3 conference teams scheduled in the future. With these super conferences going to 18-22 teams there is going to be fewer non conference games for them to schedule. Hearing 10 football conference games and 20-24 basketball conference games.

It depends on the influence of TV deals vs desire for gate revenue. A lot of teams will want to schedule a non-con home buy game that fills their own coffers than go on the road an extra time.

For example, Illinois will want to sell tickets, concessions, parking, etc. to two opponents drawing 10k each year than a conference opponent drawing 13k-15k every other year. Unless TV says that will lower their media payments, it’s hard to want the extra conference game.

From everything I am hearing TV money wants the additional conference game. And so do the bookies. More conference games much less pre conference season “cupcakes”, their words not mine, for the TV revenue. Example I was shown had a fictitious Ohio State schedule. Home and home with Alabama, home Miami of Ohio, then 10 big ten games, then a 12 or 16 team national playoff tournament.

Sorry, forgot basketball that schedule had 22-24 conference games, some were even projecting 28-30 conference games, fewer pre-conference games and then post conference season tournament plus NCAA tournament.

Personally, I would not count on seeing a superconference team visit here again. The budget gap just keeps expanding with no end in sight. It would take a really desirable recruiting location or a coach being besties with a superconference coach for a mid-major to get a H&H going forward, IMO.

As fans, we will just have to adjust our expectations. It's out of everyone's control.

I don't disagree with you... but the timing of this announcement was pretty funny.

Sometimes it comes down to a team having a player from a particular area. For example, if Ohio State played here for Keita Bates-Diop.

Not that it would have been honored, but Dan’s contract had that home-home provision. So if he would have gotten the LSU job years back, they could have ended up playing here.

It will be rare, but it’s possible. Much more likely to happen with WBB, where it has happened the last two seasons on top of good match-ups vs SLU and UW-GB.

I believe the Okie St/SIU thing was announced last year as part of a H/H. Is MVC hero Barry Hinson still on Okie St staff?

Yes, the Okie St/SIU 2-for-1 was announced last year. MVC hero Barry Hinston runs their NIL program IIRC. They played in Stillwater last year, Carbondale this year, and Stillwater next year.

In the past couple weeks, the Big XII has become a superconference and I don't think you'll be seeing that anymore moving forward. The exceptions will be either a critical recruiting area or a coach/player connection, but it won't happen without either of those two factors IMO.

Correct: Hinson is now an administrator in that space.

I’m not sure how positions like this are able to exist because it involves the university coordinating those who pay players with seemingly unlimited opportunity for their department to be the puppeteer behind an “external” operation.

An easy position for someone near retirement, who can still help out the MBB program in the same type of work he was doing before. I’m not saying Barry isn’t a good fit for this job.

However, think of Utah having Brennan in a role like this but on the external side. The NCAA may want to keep a close eye on them.

I mean I think someone who is familar with the rules needs to be overseeing what deals students are getting from the school's POV. We have two people who run NIL for ISU, correct? I believe they help the athletes connect with businesses and help them with the financial side of it like taxes and the like.

Been calling this for a couple years. Should be fun, and cool that it's a doubleheader with the women's teams. Should also be an annual thing. Hopefully their students come in to RA and are louder than ours. I know it's only an exhibition but I could see that happening, sadly.
