I guess we still don’t have 100% confirmation on Kotov or Sissoko. Though if either is done with basketball we may not get it any time soon since nothing has to be announced. Schmitt wouldn’t surprise me to return. If he’s in a similar role to last year I’m fine with it. He’s a good dude and teammate.
Schmitt is the TYPE of big Pedon wants. Rolls off screens and plays with back to the basket. Fundamentally, he is sound. He lacks some of the quickness needed but as 2011 says, if he's a leader of the scout team next year and a positive influence in the locker room, I'm cool with him using his final year as a Redbird. If he makes a jump and competes for minutes, that would be icing on the cake.

Pedon has 5 to fill right now (assuming Kotov and Sissoko are gone). I'd rather that not go to 6.

This is ridiculous. Why not just do away with LOIs and scholarships in general? Every year, every player is automatically a free agent. There is no penalty for entering the portal and you can always back out, so they are are, in practicality, free agents anyway. Why not just have every player in the country on a year by year scholarship?

This is going to get worse before it gets better and now I fear the NCAA has put itself in a spot where even if it wanted to reign this all back in and bring back the "sit a year/lose a year" requirement, they would probably face gigantic lawsuits that would block it.

But, and this is a big but, if Pedon can sell his players on his system and keep them around ISU may benefit from all the chaos. College basketball with all the betting etc, has become not just a “minor leagues” for the pros, but a major sports system of its own. Not just the NBA but all over the world. We may not like it but the portal and NIL are a huge part of the future of college sports. Let’s see how ISU comes through this year and see if the system works. Going to be very interesting.

I think about the fact that college players are deciding not to get drafted by the WNBA because they are making "many times more" on their NIL playing for their college. Of course, colleges wont be able to hold that card against NBA paychecks, but it is proof that the teams that have the $$$ can outbid professional organizations to retain services of players.

I wonder if Men's programs like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky have some sort of profit sharing with their players to keep them around beyond freshmen year. As for mid majors, you are going to see every single top end player essentially open their recruitment every year to the teams with the wallets.

The WNBA is cheap. The NBA really should help upgrade the women’s teams. They have the money. NBA players have over $3.6 billion in salary. WNBA is about $16 million. A 1% tax on NBA salary would the WNBA an additional $36M. Chump change for the boys could prevent women players from having to play in other leagues to help make ends meet.

The WNBA would already fold if it wasn’t for the NBA. How much more do you want them to subsidize it? Want the WNBA to succeed? Then watch it and support it.

He’s streaky to a fault. When he’s on . . . WOW! But when he’s off . . . he can be a real weight on the team.
It might be easy to have a player like that if he is your 11-12th scholarship. These days guys could be walk-ons if they get the right NIL deal that pays their tuition and more.

If the owners wanted to do this, they already would have. If the players’ union wants to do it, they could easily give up a portion of their share of NBA revenues to do this. My family will gladly support Paige, just like we do Kate DelFava (soccer) and did Samantha Richdale (LPGA/Futures tour). However, that doesn’t mean I believe they should be subsidized more that they already are.

The general public votes with their entertainment dollars. There are also other billionaires or multi-millionaires who could easily buy teams or ink huge sponsorships. They don’t.

WNBA players aren’t required to play basketball as an occupation. They also aren’t paid poverty-level wages. If those players do not like the pay, they are free to play elsewhere, go into other lines of business, or get off-season jobs.

Don't disagree. And that's why the NBA should help increase salaries. It's in the NBA's best interest to help the WNBA flourish, to help continue to basketball gain global audiences. Helping them flourish means getting the best players, and that'll require increasing salaries to compete for the best of the foreign players, as well as American . . .

Get rid of the stigma that women's sports are lesser than and then you can talk about if people want to watch it they will. Until then, that's an unfair argument to them.
