The Redbirds return home to CEFCU Arena to meet the Racers.
MSU is tied for seventh place in conference at 8-8 (13-13 overall) whereas ISU is tied at ninth place at 5-11 (10-17 overall).
The "Thoroughbreds" are led in scoring by Rob Perry (14.4), rebounds by D J Burns (6.8) and assists by JaCobi Wood (4.4), Jamari Smith (11.5) and Wood (10.9) also average double-digits; the "Teachers" are led in scoring and assists by Darius Burford (12.0, 2.3) and rebounding by Kendall Lewis (7.0), Seneca Knight (11.6), Lewis (10.4) and Malachai Poindexter (10.2) also average in double-digits. The 'breds generally go nine and the 'birds go eleven deep on any given night.
According to NET Ranking, Murray State's (216) toughest opponent was Texas A&M (33, win) and their worst loss was to Bellarmine (250); Illinois State's (266) toughest opponent was Bradley (63, two losses), their best win was against Southern Illinois (121) and their worst loss was to Illinois-Chicago (283).
At this point in the season, there are more common opponents than not (both defeated Chicago State in non-conference); as far as strengths, the Redbirds have advantage in three-point percentage, free-throw percentage, rebounding and steals.
MSU won the first match-up at CFSB Center, 70-67 in overtime.
Both teams are currently riding three-game losing streaks (Murray State by an average of 32 points, Illinois State by an average of 13 points); MSU has won the last five match-ups (and seven of eight overall) versus ISU.
One team is going to stop their slide, think it will be the good guys.
