Then why are we recruiting them!?
Got to fill out the roster and Poindexter, Burford, Kasubke and Liam have 2 more years they could use after this. Lewis and Petrakis have another year they could use if they wish. Playing time, in same system will make them better over time.

Maybe we can attribute last night feeling like a morgue to the pump up girl missing? With the declining attendance it feels like the game day experience is also suffering with the between TO stuff. The coordination between the Athletic Department seems to be very poor. Many people aren’t happy with Kyle right now for a wide variety of reasons. I’d be kind of surprised if he didn’t move on the first chance he gets. Hard to say if what’s happening in the AD department is really his fault or not. Heard conflicting things.

No it is due to a bad product.

FWIW, I’ve heard a lot of the same about athletics leadership from those inside the department and closely connected.

I understand that Pedon is a 1st time head coach but that is a mistake that shouldn't be happening. So far this staff has not blown my socks off with recruiting but I was holding out hope that their Xs & Os were solid, very disappointing.
They’re also down a full-time assistant. The young guys are growing into expanded roles as best they can, but I’d imagine everyone is stretched a bit thin.

I thought calling the final timeout was risky in and of itself, since you have no mulligan if nobody gets open on a contested inbound. Once the foul was committed, there was still time to shout out a set play.

I can only guess that they were using some game theory that Murray would never expect them to run the exact same play again.

Did anyone listen to/post Pedon’s postgame interview?

Growing pains are a real thing in every aspect of life, yes including basketball. It still amaze me everyone know we lack a controller of the paint on both ends of the floor. That’s a glaring fact to me. The chances of this being a major problem next year is completely out of question for me. It’s so o virus to me that it’s more than likely worth at minimum 7-8 more wins. Yes even with the turnovers a paint presence can absolutely hide lots of things on a basketball court. The returners will be better no doubt about it.

Then the coach better be ready to roll up his sleeves.

You are so right. If you watch the high school game- everyone is firing three’s. If you have a paint presence that’s a difference maker. Many don’t want to take the time to teach it! Heck- working on shell defense seems like a thing of the past!

I don't think that showed at all last night though. Stats don't seem to show that either:

Points in the Paint was 36-34 favoring Murray.

But we owned the boards 22-17 (equal off boards at 6 each.

ISU also had 4 blocks to 0 for murray State.

Coming out of the under 4 timeout of the second half with ISU only down 3,White from Murray State scored on three straight layups. Just taking it at knight. No scheming. Just a guy taking it to the basket and we were unable to stop him.

Then, for goodness sake, don’t watch the game if it bothers you! Go out there and play. Experience for yourself how it feels to get kicked around and loose. Show some respect to Redbirds. At least they tried their best. Of course they made mistakes, but watch again how they played: some phenomenal moments! Why not talk about that?
I believe most folks are talking about it because we lost. These are adults playing a game they are compensated for. Now that the amateur component is out the window, this is no different than going to a restaurant and having a bad meal or going to a movie and seeing a bad show.

Last night had some telling factors: come heck or high water, it seemed some guys weren’t going to be put in. It was clear we had gassed players even in the first half. The solution: play the walk-ons. They tried but were overmatched. We had several scholarship posts that still didn’t see the court, even as we kept the ball around the perimeter and could have used some screens.

When the 3 balls stopped falling, we had no other option besides try to hit as many FTs as we can. We seem to hit an occasional back door cut because the other team is so shocked when we try it.

At this point, if we want to try a March miracle, should we be wearing down the 7-8 guys who play a large majority of the minutes? Maybe the play is showing guys where they stand for next year. If you aren’t seeing the court in the position we are in the standings and with the health of this team, that should be a clear sign.

Those stats are very misleading. Our guards get buckets in the paint as well. Positionally speaking about the 5, and I do mean a true big. Plus a true big will help defend, block and alter shots which is the real killer of this team. We have no help defender downlow, we always switch and it puts this team in a squeeze.

Returners that will likely be exploring the transfer portal? You mean those “returners”?

Pops I feel like I’ve gotten mixed messages the last few months, but do you think we might need a true big next year?

Reality check: We all knew this season was going to be tough. And let’s not kid ourselves; next season is going to be rough. We may be a little better but at this point any improvement will be welcome. The arena was a morgue last night. 25 years of this takes a toll and I frankly don’t know how ISU digs out of it. Another season ticket holder said to me after the game; ‘we have to look at the positives’. I agree. My positive is that this season is almost over. I only have to endure one more loss in CA. I’ll continue to pull for the Birds ( without much hope) and whoever is playing PU. Then I need to consider what to do when the program asked me to again for my season tickets support.
Sounds like you've already made your decision.

Mel, the bench also got outscored like 31-4 and I believe Murray got 24 points in the paint just in the 2nd half. Murray only shoots the 3 at like 32% and not being able to stop Perry in the 1st half, spread out the defense and we don't have a big to stop a drive at all once a guard gets past our guards.
I give Pedon credit because he wants to play thru the paint and picks and so forth but we don't have that kind of big. A big like Mast or Krikke would do wonders with how smart they are on defense and so forth. If we got that it would allow Lewis and Liam to play at true positions and not give up 30lbs to guys.

I also give props to Malachi and Burford this is the first time that they have played the point at the D1 level and both assist/turnover ratio is positive with more assists than turnovers. Burford is 21-8 his last 6 games. It appears both have turned the corner and that will help a bunch for next year.
