I’m the complete opposite. This one is really pissing me off. As did the UNI game.

Been a few years since I’ve felt like this.
2019 for me. That was the last time I’ve thrown (thankfully soft) inanimate objects at the TV in frustration after MSU 3/4 court miracle beat us.

I’m not back there yet, but the nerves definitely amped up at the end of last night’s game.

Everything to be said, has been at this point. I believe Pedon said FTs after the half were 22-10 in favor of the Gargs? That's tough considering the Birds style of play didn't change, nor did the BU defense. I'm not a blame the refs guy, though. The two things that did ISU in were turnovers (obviously) and depth. You can play your ass off, but at the end of the day, 20+ turnovers and only having 6 guys (at most) that can contribute will continue to be the bane of this team. Three of the six dudes Pedon puts on the floor played 40+ minutes, which leads to tired legs down the stretch and that was clear.

As others have said, it's not that I don't care about the program, because I do, I'm just not ripping my TV off the wall about that loss. I'm realistic about expectations for year 1 of a new head coach, mostly because he's realistic about it. Listen to any interview he does...he cares, losses hurt him, but at the end of the day, this thing isn't going to happen over night. Improvement next year to middle of the pack and compete for the top in year 3. That's what I'm looking for.

Watching the game through the Bird-colored lenses, I see ISU losing it, not Bradley winning. If I'm BU, I'm a little concerned that ISU showed more want. Feels like BU loses on Friday in STL (assuming they finish top 4).

They still bother me, admittedly not as much, but some still really get to me. Last night going in I knew 100% they were going to lose, if they lost like at SIU good effort but SIU had control down the stretch wouldn’t have bothered me. But they found a way to make it painful….

Three things out of last night's game

a.) regardless of subsequent video replay, David Kaplan will not vary from his initial take
b.) Kelly Self was channeling his inner-Gerry Pollard (flop call when contact, double technical, countless video reviews)
c.) This team does not value basketball possessions nearly enough (besides turnovers, too many last second heaves to avoid shot clock violations)

The end of regulation was a gut punch. Foul or not, he was chucking a deep turn around prayer. Shouldn't have given the refs the opportunity to blow the whistle.

We dominated the glass, the hustle points and the turnovers

Mals dad was spot on with his out of a time out success rate. Poor

Nice that Lewis shook off his heebie geebies

Thought one of badleys threes should have been reviewed in the first half. Thought he had a toe on the line.

I hate to be a Debbie downer but here goes. Close losses like this use to knaw at me for days. Any loss to Bradley would piss me off to no end.

I hate to admit it but I just don’t really care anymore. Year after year of bad teams has left me indifferent. Dan Muller killed the program. I hope…. I really hope Pedon can breath life into it again and resuscitate what was once a proud successful bball program. It’s been a really long time since Illinois State and bball competence were one and the same and I just don’t care anymore.
I've had to train myself the past few years to recalibrate why I watch and how I view these games. It's a school I love in an area I love. The players and coaches all love the school as well and are ultimately the ones who put in the work to make the program as enjoyable as it can be. This is all just for fun, and I need to consume the games to reflect this is an experience for fun. I have no control over wins and losses, so don't add stress worrying about something I have no control over.

Basically, live life like Doug Sutton.

I agree. Depth could actually lower some turnovers. It’s gotta be extremely hard play just about the whole game every game. Birds have played tough and close games with some of the top half teams in this league. Pedon will get the right pieces in. They well make a jump next year
We had three playes play over 40 minutes and a 4th almost at 40. We had 2 players cramping up and it looked like Knight grabbed his leg the possession after the dunk in OT

The legs go on a jump shot and shooting% drops, there's perhaps not as much off the ball movement because you trying get a quick blow, you settle for a shot or there's a careless TO, you miss a FT, mental break downs on d or just a step slow. I do think the outcomes of the Bradley and @ UNI games were potentially impacted by a short bench.

- Last night was tough being in the Ice Rink but I am proud how the Birds hustled and really fought last night. I think Everyone was concerned how we would play after the VU debacle and they fought their tails. Its tough to win when 3 starters play over 40 minutes and a bench guy plays 38 minutes. Everyone knows the problems this team has but its being realistic with Pedon coming in on year 1 and throwing a roster together as he was trying to put a schedule together. Year 1 is building a culture and with the guys that played, coach Pedon is doing that.
-A conversation I had with Luke's dad at half. I thanked him for Luke and asked him what he thought about the PU rivalry. We both went on to say that we love what coach Pedon is doing. With Mal, DB and Luke we have a core in the backcourt that is building what coach Pedon wants. Its not going to happen overnight but these kids are establishing a foundation that we both think will lead to success. The success might be after Mal, DB and Luke leave but with next year and the coming years they will be what got this train started.
- Also hates off to Kyle Brennan. Kyle told us before the game that he is putting a Redbird Athletics billboard right in the heart of the PU campus and I can't love that enough.

This is why the roster needs to be worked over. We need to hit the portal and JC route heavy for at least a big. If you aren’t D1 material we should be helping them find a spot for playing time to open up spots!
And that’s very fair to all involved

I echo everything you say about the coaches, team and program. My only kicker is not the 3 year prediction. I believe even with a first year true pg or by way of the portal and a viable big the Birds can make some noise next year. Even if the only big we get is suppose to be the incoming committed kid it will help. He’s big enough to draw attention down low. Now we’re talking about some serious screens being set too. That will definitely allow Pedon to play inside out. I expect Luke and Mal to come back along with Liam. I’ve been saying from day 1 this team can really shoot it. Their shooting is taken away from them first by turnovers and secondly no inside presence. I can tell teams are really trying to take the 3 ball away from Mal. Only three attempts last night, two at the end of the shot clock. It’s no coincidence the one he made was coming off a screen set for him by Liam. Trust me brighter days are ahead for this program much sooner than 3 years.

Mal have already stated to me he plans on staying a Redbird for as long as he can. He does have 2 more years.

Totally agree, and I also thought his toe was on the line.

Anybody notice how bad we are at simply catching the basketball? We mishandle/bobble about every other pass.

To be honest, I don’t think the Illinois State administration really cares either. They’re more concerned with erecting monuments to Title IX than competing at their potential in football or mens basketball. So sad.

The flop rule needs to be revisited. If a defensive player steps in to take a charge...... he falls down when the contract is made, DON'T CALL IT A FLOP! If there is no contact, then call it a flop.
Yes. And the related part of this that I don't get is, there's contact, no foul is called, the defensive player goes down, but there's NO flop called. Contact, but no foul or no flop. How can that be? I mean, I guess they're saying its not a non-contact sport, that some contact is gonna happen. But seems to me kinda crazy.

I would rather not have to listen to Kaplan do another Redbirds game again. He is horrible!!!

Horsepooooo, Reggie. The admin cares. You can be pissed about our results, absolutely. But to make a blanket statement like this is ridiculous. Also...Illinois State was on the front end of TitleIX nationally and Jill Hutchison and Linda Herman were and are big reasons for it and they are more than deserving.

I get what you're saying. But bullshite statement.
