guess Jeff Gordon must be a Kool-Aid drinker too!
No offense but that guy likely has hardly followed isu basketball at all. Anyone got any other articles he’s written recently about ISU? He makes some valid points but is a bit off on some things

Honest question (and admittedly, I read it very quickly during my lunch break today so maybe I missed something), but what did you feel he missed on? It seemed like he called Dan a class act, had some success but couldn't sustain it, and that it's very difficult to win at the mid-major level.

5 years. Don’t even need a NCAA tournament in that window but need marked improvement. You can’t come in and lose for 4 straight years and get a free pass. But I think 2 without comment. Year 3 might should probably earliest a warm seat should even be whispered.
If we are playing on Thursday the next two years, there should definitely be comments. We should be out of Thursday night next year. I keep saying it. I expect a turnaround like Drake had. They were worse off than we are and didn't have this portal. Flip the staff, flip the roster, let's get going.

He made comments about Dan racking up victories and being a rising star and making major college watch lists. After 2017, I do not even remember him legitimately being mentioned for any job. Take out his 2017 season what is his W/L total prior to it. He wasn’t winning 25 games a year. He made him sound like he was the next John wooden. Yes he had one good season but otherwise I wouldn’t say he was really killing it.

I think the MVC is a league currently that has a few programs in rough spot, and finishing 6th even next season isn’t far fetched.

I gotcha. I think he was probably taking the cumulative wins and losses at the end of the 2017 season, which admittedly was a good percentage. I'm not certain about this but I believe his name was thrown around for the Dayton job. Whether or not you call that a "major college watch list" is definitely up for debate and I totally understand why someone wouldn't, but it is a step up from ISU in terms of recognize-ability and conference.

I could be wrong but I felt like the word was that Dan was interested in the job quite a bit but Dayton was not. Dayton may have talked him him but never got serious. Dayton is a very good job, with a great fan base.

I will be paying attention this year to the little guys in the NCAA tournament. Usually they have teams full of guys who stuck around a while. Today it’s very tough, but I believe the right coach with a winning culture can do it.

I guess I shouldn't say Thursday night. If my visualization of the new bracket is correct, only the top 4 seeds will avoid Thursday. Thursday is an all day thing now.

I think Dan was a great player but not a mount rushmore Doug Collins Bubbles Hawkins Jeff Wilkens Billy Lewis Rick Lamb Jackie carmichael Pars Lee Osaris plus many more are up there before Dan
Are you just looking at scoring or the entire game? Dan clearly played better defense than most of those players was a contributor on offense for 2 NCAA and 2 NIT teams.

Ah great point, I actually forgot the bracket changes next year. I think it would be a positive sign to finish in the top 6 of the league and win some big games vs a Murray state or Belmont etc… I dont think that is unrealistic with the state of the transfer portal these days.

There are coaches, teachers, leaders, followers.

Critiques and correctors.

There are also those of us that can be compassionate and commiserate.

You can aim for the best, bust understand circumstances.

College basketball has become a business. I understand that.

Doesn’t make it right. Walk by the Dougie Fresh/Will Rob statue; kneel by the 7 fountain.

Not a cool sequence of events.

Some newbies are being very disrespectful and dancing on the grave of a borderline Rushmore Redbird hoopster.
Who is dancing on Mullers grave? Last I checked he is still healthy and alive.

A lot of the things you bring up about Muller are as a player from 94-98. We need to separate Muller the player from Muller the coach. No one is disputing that Muller the player wasn’t great. I think the board all agrees with his importance and leadership for the successful years.

Maybe you need to wait more than 3 days after Muller getting fired as a coach before you proclaim him on the Mount Rushmore of all time ISU basketball greats. He deserved to be fired. The timing sucked but his contract was why it happened when it did. This is what happens when an all time great player comes back to coach his Alta mater and fails. It sucks but Muller the coach couldn’t hold up to the same standards as Muller the player. Move on.

As a reminder, starting in 2023 with 12 teams, only the top 4 will NOT play Thursday. 5v12, 6v11, 7v10, 8v9.

I think that if Reeves, Fleming, McChesney, Lewis, Freeman, Washington, Sy, Schmitt (with some added weight/muscle) all return the Birds could finish top four next season.
