I've thought the same. I don't thing there is a chance that happens but if it actually does man that would put me in an uncomfortable situation.
There are guys you “hate” because they are so good that they always beat you and then there are those that you hate regardless because of the way the act on and off the court. Marshall is the latter.

From what I have heard, Jans has gone through some good rehabilitation. But he has it rolling at NMSU and seems destined to be in P6 by Spring 2024 at the latest, so I doubt he’s that interested. Gordon isn’t even a recruiting AC at OU so that is tough sell. I don’t see Becker or a Nova assistant being interested.

I’d be hesitant hiring anyone associated with Kyle’s time at Utah. He was there for 14 years to only see 3 NCAATs. There was also overlap with Jim Boylen. Yuck.

Lavall Jordan will likely be let go by Butler and he crosses lots of boxes. He’s been around a lot of smart guys, is only 42, has had a couple of good years, and he has ties to IN, MI, WI, and IA.

Brad Soderberg is also someone I’d look at. Won a natty as an AC at UVA and was recently demoted (which made sense with today’s recruiting climate). He is only 59. I think he’d be interested considering his son is HC at Milikin. ISU also makes sense for a guy who has spent most of career in Wisconsin and the STL area.
Soderberg is a good man, I would love to see it. But I wouldn't discount the strong bond between he and Tony Bennett, they go back a long ways, and of course he played under and coached with Tony's dad Dick. He's a very trusted assistant to Tony. Not sure he'd want to get back into a HC job or not.

I like Jordan too but his track record is worse than Coach Dan's. Not sure he'd be the right guy.

Jans and 3G's are despicable choices - if they were chosen to represent my alma mater, I'd stop following the program - just too much baggage and unbecoming personal stuff vs. success for the school I love.

RPJr. would be fine, but I wonder why Jerrance Howard's name and Dean Oliver's don't come up more?

Stallings or Turgeon would be dream gets, but I'm guessing K.S. is content watching Jake catch for the Pirates and Turtle is sitting on the K-State gig.

Yak has his own thing going at UIC coming into The Valley. Same goes for, damn, Travis Ford would be perfect.

It will be crucial to have solid assistants. Dan was one for a long time, and raised some as well. Porter's career spike was transcendent after he left here, took some time under Majerus (r.i.p.) and now look at his "tree" - Mullins, Valentine, his own hike to OU.

It might be weird, but why not bring in a young AC for their first HC gig and have a Coach Rich or Jud around to add to up-and-comer (and all-time fave) Wills?

In the end, if we can steal Gates from Cleveland (not a) State, I'd be thrilled.

Stallings is a dream get? It’s not 1995 anymore. He completely destroyed the Pitt Program and the NCAA hit him with the show cause penalty for 3 years. I guess you’re okay with a guy who breaks the rules and isn’t squeaky clean after all?

"Dream" as in there's no way they'll ever happen, fantasy land. Learn how to read.

Brennan appears very sharp and yes, he too will b a career climber. He’ll bring in someone who will immediately generate fan interest with Drive and Personality - the ability to market the Birds.
I’m guessing and planning on neither new coach or AD being present at end of 4 year term.
Now to b a tad provocative, Spack should b taking a very close look at what’s happening on campus - prayers for the right Portal QB’s and skilled players to find their way to Normal.

Howard has a better resume than Powell, but Powell has a better reputation as a person and coaching talent. Powell and Oliver got into coaching at the same time. Dean would be fine, but Powell is the better candidate on paper, as he had 3 tastes of NCAAT from 2011-2017 while Dean had none at N Dakota and ISU. Plus, experience under Few >experience under Gard. Lastly, the buzz around the program would be greater under Powell as he is the far bigger star in this state.

Powell will sell the most seats. In my humble opinion and ISU needs a cool $million to dig out the last contract hole. Powell probably gets more “free” media coverage. Can he be the head coach? Some University somewhere is going to find out. Give him 4 years to do it. No contracts longer than what an undergraduate is supposed to need to graduate. And if he does real good you can always add another year every year to a contract at any time. Just no more 7 year fiascos. And if he doesn’t work out only married to him for 3 more years. Lots of good candidates out there but one also has to ask are they willing to come to a program that has not danced since the last century and can ISU afford them?

With the portal isn't it mostly a 3-year build?

This is 100% accurate, spack better not have another below .500 season where his team can’t complete a pass

I guess I’m a bit curious how Roger Powell Jr is this big name that’s going to draw in thousands to the games. Maybe some Illini fans come from time to time, but it’s not like he’s Rick Pitino or something.

I know his dad has a legacy here, but how many folks even know or care about that? I just don’t see Powell being hired on some assumption he’s going to sell tickets

Because people in Illinois know him even if they weren't Illanoy fans. At this point more people in Bloomington Normal know him more than Gregg Marshall or Prohm or hell even Turgeon.
