In our price range, considering we are still paying Muller, I’d say we are likely ending up with a first time head coach (Powell Jr., Halcovage from ‘Nova), someone successful at a smaller conference (Jans, Becker, Nagy) or somebody wishing to build up/restore their brand after being canned recently (Crean, Hoiberg, Archie Miller). The savy busy decision would be to offer a coach who is still collecting from a bigger school (Mack).

The Indiana State approach of brining in a proven successful lower division coach would be affordable. Plus they bring all their best players that know their system/culture to help fill gaps.

Maybe a top JUCO coach who’s use to bringing in new players every year. With the Transfer Portal this appears to be the way of the future. Who is the last JUCO coach that came in and had success at the D1 level?

Jans can coach. Seems to specialize in reclamation projects. Like Zach whatsisname.

Any ideas what we can afford to pay? I doubt Turgeon comes here for $600,000.
They're probably looking at the 400k range. So, a low major head coach or an assistant looking for a decent starter job.

Were I to hazard a guess somewhere between 400k and 600k is our range. 600k is probably the highest and it would have to be for a guy like Turgeon, though I agree with you I think he and a lot of the potentially former P6 coaches are out of our range.

He is another toxic time bomb waiting to go off, no thank you.

With all of you who were withholding your donations until Muller was fired restarting your donation’s, there should be plenty to pay a new coach. Of course we can go cheap and get a mediocre Coach and continue on with the absence of an NCAA appearance.

Or get a known head coach who will be cheap

Roger Powell Jr-Gonzaga Assistant
Brandon Brantley-Purdue Assistant
Paul Lusk-Purdue Assistant
Luke Yaklich-UIC Head Coach
Dean Oliver-Wisconsin Assistant
Steve Prohm-Former Iowa State & Murray State Head Coach
Dane Fife-Indiana Assistant
Chris Lowery-Kansas State Assistant

Could someone put together a poll to vote on who you would pick for the new Head Coach? Maybe allowed to pick 3 since RPJ would probably be everyone’s first choice.
(I would, but lack the IT skills)

Get Paul Lusk and Chris Lowery off that list now. Hard pass.

I apologize for nitpicking, if I put my list out there it could be nitpicked too - BUT why Paul Lusk? He's got a losing record in the MVC, worse than Coach Dan's? Why would we want him?

I think the guy from Benson's list with Utah ties is more likely (with ties to AD Brennan) and at least as intriguing as some of the names on this list - DeMarlo Slocum. Also Kyle Green from Iowa St., former UNI assistant. Dennis Gates.

Porter Moser had a losing record. And like Porter, Paul Lusk went back as an assistant under a very good Head Coach (Matt Painter) and has now gotten the experience that could make him a good head coach, just like Porter Moser.
Anyone who wants to put this list on a Poll is more than welcome to add to it. I just thought that it would be interesting to see how close we come to Kyle’s top five, and eventually his pick for the new Head Basketball Coach @ Illinois State University.

Or maybe cite it. APA style is preferred on Redbirdfan.

Hahahaha!!!
Please continue with these donation barbs. I’m dying.
I even showed my wife, friends, and family and they’re also in stitches.
Honestly, I can’t get enough. When does your HBO special air?
