Conservative helped the birds win a few games, its playing conservative imo its being able to execute at the ends of games that wins you games. The Birds didn't execute the last minute and a half, after that last first down any coach would have played it the way Spack did although you probably change a few play calls. Spack did what they do. The play that hurt was holding penalty, you can't hold and stop the clock. People were yelling the clock should start bc YSU declined it but thats still not how it works, the clock still stops. YSU got the ball back with 1:06 remaining you take 40 seconds off of the that and YSU state 80 yards to go score a td without any timeouts. I would have kicked the field goal but I understand what they were thinking, they wanted to pin YSU inside the 10, the punter, punted it too hard and it went into the end zone.
With 5 minutes left, play 5 minute offense and the game is over. Spack was going to rely on the defense to make plays bc you have Zeke, Wilhoit, Lewan, Deming, West, Lemont and Dabney. All those kids are seniors or have played football. On offense we were playing with a redshirt freshman #2 QB, redshirt freshman #2 running back, redshirt freshman originally walk-on receiver and those guys lead us in every offensive category. Tough to win with redshirt freshman you aren't going to ask them to make a lot of plays because you don't want them to make mistakes. Heck if we would have played ultra conservative and just kneeled the ball after the last first down that might have been better because then you wouldn't have had the holding call that ultimately stopped the clock.
