Hard to say right? Based on his modest results at Niu it could've been a trainwreck. Then again, maybe he'd learned some things and would've been better. He had plenty of time there though and I think his best year was 17 wins (might be wrong)

NIU is an extremely difficult place to win. Idk why they’ve struggled so mightily, but some solid coaches have failed there.

Porter returned a much better HC after time on Majerus’ bench. Judson may have learned some things following his return to the assistant ranks and been a much-improved HC in his second go-round.

The rumor at the time was that Judson was going to get the job but some ISU donors weren't overly impressed and forced a last minute change in direction, and the rest is history...

Yes, Judson was a finalist for the job. So much so that Benson announced him as the new Coach in the Pantagraph.

That was a major oops by the Pantagraph. I remember it well.
