The 1st place 17-11 (7-2) Redbirds kick off the week Tuesday against Illinois (16-13). Illinois has a loss against Indiana State and a win against Bradley. Illinois State and Illinois are two of the hotter teams in the country right now. Illinois has won 11 of their last 14 and just had a 7 win streak of their own snapped. ISU has won 7 straight including 12 of their last 15. Probably the best 2 teams in Illinois. UIC and SIU also in the conversation.

On Wednesday, ISU will take on Western Illinois (6-21). The Leathernecks have lost 4 times to SLU, once to UT-Martin, and 3 times to EIU. They have 2 wins against UT-Martin.

For the weekend series, ISU will face 5th place 14-17 (4-5) Evansville. This is obviously a big road series. If the Birds play well, it will set up a battle for 1st place against the Sycamores next weekend.

Also FYI, if you do want to subscribe to B1G+, you will also be able to get the Northwestern and Iowa games this month.

Opponents/game times for this week:
4/9 @ Illinois (Harper) - 6 pm - B1G+ ($)
4/10 @ Western Illinois (TBD) - 3 pm - no stream
4/12 @ Evansville (Mabin) - 6 pm - ESPN+
4/13 @ Evansville (Chadwick) - 2 pm - ESPN+
4/14 @ Evansville (Perry) - 1 pm - ESPN+

Big week here. Taking both, or at least splitting the WIU/UofI games would be great, but taking 2/3 @UE would be even better, though that's no easy task. They're scrappy, and pretty good at home. Would love to go at least 3-2 in these next 5 and setup a huge home series with the Sycs.

We lost 2 home games against Big 10 teams to cancellations (Iowa and Illinois). Added a Big 10 road game due to an early season "heat" wave (Northwestern). That left us with 5 Big 10 away games. Such a shame. It was so much fun beating undefeated Purdue 2 years ago at the Duff.

Painful loss today 5-6. Husak blew the lead in the 8th and again in the 9th. He did inherit the running from Chadwick in the 8th. Also dropped the opener 1-9. Need a win tomorrow to salvage the series and maintain sole possession of 2nd place.

That was a momentum killer of a weekend. Would've been nice to salvage at least one but we gave Saturday away and got whipped the other two. Now UE is right in the mix. We need to rebound quick.
