On the Dakich podcast he told us he was originally hired as Director of Ops but he do so well coordinating everything when nobody was hired yet that Pedon made him full time assistant. Cool story
I apologize! Sorry Reg Redbird! Laps or fingertip push-ups...what's my penalty?

He also said it I think on the ISU athletics podcast, In the Nest. I think.

No worries at all. It happened so quickly, who remembers.

I like the Dakich hire. He seems hungry.

I have long been a Judson fan. Good at development and seems great at building relationships. I believe his wife (Dr. Judson) continued to be a professor here since his first stint as an assistant. I could see him being here for the long haul.

We have seen player development with our own eyes though. Judson and Pedon have so much knowledge. Dakich is still pretty fresh from his playing days so he can relate well and knows exactly what Pedon wants. Im not concerned one bit about this aspect. Burnout would be the bigger concern.
Not to mention, if any of the coaching staff needs some help, there is plenty of advice being given on this board that they can reference. ;)

Me too (have been a Judson fan). He's a basketball lifer, from a proud Illinois hoops family. Coached Illinois HS ball and also at 5 different universities in the state. We're lucky to have him at ISU, and I'm glad Pedon was open to having him here, and glad Judson has no problem with his role. He's seen a lotta ball in his career and its just a plus to have him on the bench. Oh and did I mention Illinois coaches association Hall of Famer??

Holy…. Benson asked. Must read the board.

I hope he’s right and that I’ve been hearing wrong. It seems like a weird response from Pedon, and it could have been how this reporter asked. It wasn’t, “We welcome him back…or we’re glad he’s had time to bond…or we’re excited to have him back…but, “I assume he’ll be back…”.

I have about as much faith in this reporter’s work as I do in my ability to avoid a piece of pie.

Thinking more about this: this sounds like when HR comes and tells a manager that a person is going to be out until X date. During that time, you hear absolutely nothing from that person. Not saying you have to, but the bond between coaches is a bit different than in say, Corporate America.

I hope Offutt is back and brings positive energy to this team, hitting the ground running with recruiting, player development, etc. because you run the risk that he comes back and doesn’t fit in.

Thinking ISU might have a press conference on 1/31.

I have had plenty of people go on maternity and paternity leave and there has always been some contact during the leave. I find it hard to believe Peden doesn't know exactly what is happening.

Add me to the long list of fans who have been blocked by Benson.

I guess asking if he followed up about “assuming” Offutt would be back was over the line. My bad, y’all.

Not speaking of Benson specifically, but in this day and age it is tougher, with reduced staff allocated overall, for any newspaper to justify the expense to cover anything in-depth. Folks are not allowed the opportunity to focus on a beat anymore (see the George Santos debacle ... if the amount of research going on now took place three-plus months ago there (probably) would have been a different result). And, the smaller the market and newspaper, the thin(ner) the spread.

As an example, I am sure there are certain departments of the Pantagraph that were happier Benson was covering the ISU @ UNI game Wednesday night via streaming on his couch (saved money overall).

Also, what used to be media reporting on a team has become media almost becoming an advertising arm of the team. Access can be reduced or even denied if a team thinks it is being covered "unfairly" (re: not in a good light).

Now, speaking of Benson, that is ridiculous. But, referencing above, who at the Pantagraph (or Lee Enterprises) monitors those actions/Twitter behavior?

Did you just go on a whole rant defending Benson not asking 1 follow up question or clarifying his tweet just to say he sucks?

Ya know Dunks, you're about the least threatening poster on this board and I would assume you're the same on Twitter. TheBensonBlock just makes me laugh...geez oh Pete's. Whatever!

As someone who was able to take paternity leave 2x I applaud what Coach did. You never get that time back. Coaching is just a job. Bonding with newborns is critical
We don’t know his situation to be making comments on it. Maybe he is like my family and has no grandparents/family around. If all you have is the two of you- you need that time. I have been blessed to have some wonderful friends in the community that has treated my kids like aunts and uncles.
