Tonight would be a nice time to get all cylinders firing and put it on cruise control down the stretch, but lets not put the shit behind the shovel just yet. Just play how we're capable, limit mistakes, and it'll take care of itself.
The Shit Behind The Shovel.

Sounds like a book title. Thoreau'ish. Get to work!

Putting the finishing touches on the current book first, but will be lining up a palette cleanser project right after that. Thought about doing a nonfic work on the history of Redbird fan groups from Bender's Baseline Bunch to Red Rage to Red Alert, plus CindyGate and all points in between. Fully candid with interviews and photos. Unofficial of course. That would make a great title for that :)

3 KEYS TO VICTORY:

1. Handle the ball. The only way SEMO gets in this game is if we give them extra possessions. Malachi/Banks bringing the ball down every time.

2. Restriction on Lieb. His +/- has been abysmal this year, and he slows down and clogs up the whole offense.

3. Play with some STONES. Seems like we have been getting soft on D, need to attack the traps and get in SEMO's face early. We have quick enough guys to recover.

Side note, don't underestimate Pence's ceiling. He will play a large role on this team come Valley play. Just needs one breakout game to get going.

Take care of these three things and Birds win 77-59.

How about some post-time out plays and/or inbounds plays featuring a lob and dunk with Pence? Set him up for some one on one magic with the right match up to get him going some? I agree that his style needs to be unlocked - gotta get him a few special sets.

This. Sometimes you have to make a spark to find a spark. I think once Pence gets that lidlifter he just might start going off.

Actually I would like to see Lieb score tonight. 8/10 points would be very nice. I still think he can make a difference down the stretch given his size. Hoping Mal finds his stroke too. But I still will give Mal credit. His defence has been pretty doggone good despite his offensive struggles

I would argue the defense has been the only reason we've been in the last 5 games. Actually, all of our wins. It's not like we simply outscored the other team. In most situations, we've had to overcome deficits to get dubs.

Completely agree. Just think we play up/down to our competition on the Defensive end. Play like we're losing the whole game and I want to see what this team can accomplish.

SEMO might be worse than advertised. Good to see the score where it is at half. However still struggling with A:T ratio.

Almost 10 minutes into the game we had 12 points, down 18-12. Finished 30-10. Seems to me Johnny is trying to speed up to make things happen, rather than letting the game come to him. Birds have been using the back door a lot tonight, which is nice to see. Am frankly surprised to see we're leading the rebounding battle . . . just seemed like SEMO was getting more than us. Need to put this away early in the 2nd half.

I am not sure what we learned from this game. ISU did what it needed to do against a very bad SEMO team.

Obviously, SEMO isn’t the best competition, however, 15 assists tonight. The squad looks different when they’re shooting 40% from three. Just gotta get in that rhythm. I was glad we had a lead that allowed Pence extended minutes. He took some really good shots but damn, ones gotta go in eventually. I think it’ll be huge for him to see one go down. Kendall had the quietest 18 or whatever that I’ve seen.

At the end of the day, if you had told me this past summer that we'd be 8-4 and 2-0 going into Christmas...compared to last however many seasons...I would've said MERRY CHRISTMAS, pass the potatoes, and I'LL TAKE IT.

I'll take it.✌️ Nite nite all...Merry Christmas ya filthy animals.
