Went to Allen Fieldhouse this weekend to see KU get crushed by a very good TCU team (their defense was absolutely suffocating) and saw this banner in the rafters….
Crazy when you think of the history of the Valley.

Hahaha haha there ya go. Freakin' Elgin absolutely. BTW...seems most of here strongly dislike Elgin but the reason MVC had so many teams in post-season play in mid-2000's is much in part credit to Doug Elgin. Never really truly understood the depth of the hate.

It was later decisions. Imposing the scheduling rules due to Jank then quietly discarding them led to some of the 1 bid league issues. Most believe he didn’t do enough to get deserving second bids.

Many years ago Doug Elgin was a hero for MVC, when we had 3 or 4 quality teams in the league. Most of you are too young to remember this. The MVC was something we could be proud of back then.

The mid aughts were a great time for the mvc. It was exciting and fun. And that's without the Birds being good. Also, crowds were coming and it was electric.

I saw a YT video today of SIU at Redbird Arena in 2006 and the place was packed even though we were terrible.

Watching mid-2000s MVC videos is like watching a Golden Age.

SIU brought huge numbers for a few years. When they were on that run it was so depressing in the second half to down 20 listening to 1500-2000 chanting SIU SIU
