Awesome news !!!! Thought this news/scoop for pending deal was worthy of its own thread. Many teams clearly like him a lot.

Here's the link others posted on Former PLayers Thread: https://www.profootballrumors.com/2020/01/bears-to-sign-cfl-cb-tre-roberson

"Roberson, who is viewed as this year’s best CFL-to-NFL prospect, participated in a few workouts and drew the attention of at least 10 teams during this process. He will join the Bears, however, and for a higher rate than the usual CFL imports receive.

The 27-year-old defender will sign for what is believed to be the highest rate for a CFL import since the Dolphins added Cameron Wake in 2009, Schefter adds. Wake received a four-year deal worth nearly $5MM, with close to $1MM guaranteed, 11 years ago. While Roberson will not exactly make high-end cornerback money on this Bears deal, the investment is notable nonetheless."

Happy to hear this. I read 1 mil guarantee. I'm guessing Prince will either renegotiate or be cut by June 1. If not he's a 9 million dollar cap hit.

Will be fun watching him on Sundays. He will only get better with time. Transition from QB to CB can not be a common one .. just amazing how well he's done this. Minnesota liked him enough to keep him around for 2 tryouts right out of college ... clearly, they saw something. To me, CB is one of the hardest positions to learn and be good at other than QB position. It goes way beyond raw ability.

Can't wait to seem him on Sundays.

I am not a huge fan of the soundtrack but some nice clips of Tre in the CFL.

Brad Biggs said Tre played field corner last year. That just means he flips to the wide side of the field. The field is 10 yards wider, end zones are 20 yards deep and hash marks are wider. That's a lot more ground to cover. So he's suited to play either side. Receivers get a running start. Also, Tre had his picks early in the season because teams stopped throwing at him. At this point with his athleticism he's going to be a stud corner at a bargain price for the Bears. I can't wait!

I know this is a highlight reel, but dude is more of a fearless hitter than I would have imagined. As QB youre taught to avoid contact instinctively, so you just never know how that will translate as a CB. Also, his ability to get vertical is better than I expected, though there is little reason to go vertical as a QB.

And very interesting points about difference in coverage area in CFL game vs NFL game .. the NFL field will seem tiny by comparison for Tre. That should help his transition to the much higher level of competition.

found this article, which talks about his contract: https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/complete-details-cb-tre-robersons-contract-bears

Thought he would get a little more than this based on 10 teams having interest .. also amazing (and telling) that this is the top CFL to NFL contract in 10 years.

"According to ESPN's Field Yates, Roberson's two-year contract includes a $75K signing bonus, $50K Week 1 roster bonus in 2020 and a $25K workout bonus each year. He'll earn base salaries of $550K and $610K in 2020 and 2021.

Adam Schefter tweeted this week Roberson's contract is the largest CFL-to-NFL compensation given to a player since the Dolphins signed Cameron Wake in 2009."

great article and story .. I didnt know he took a break as a truck driver while his wife was pregnant. Even more impressed with what he went thru to get to this point.

agreed.

Love reading about a guy who man's up and does what he needs to do to take care of his family. Tre obviously does this. very happy for him and hope he does great in Chicago.

Liedke
Cam Meredith
Jimmy O
Tre
Davontae Harris

i might be forgetting some but all of these guys on the 2014 runner up team have been in the NFL to varying degrees. no wonder that team was so damn good. wow

Happy for Tre but uncertain how his game will translate to the NFL. I hope I'm wrong but I think he has 2 years max in the league

there's always that risk. But it's hard to ignore a couple of things:

1. how interested the Vikings were when he was just out of college and had only moved to this position once he got to Vikings Camp. They kept him around for 2 camps. he was brand new to the toughest position on the field, putting aside the QB position. That alone says a heck of lot.

2. how well he played in CFL, 10 yard wider field, WRs taking a running start, and he always shifted to wide side based on where offense was set up.

3. fact that 10 teams offered him contracts and he is supposedly the mostly highly sought after and paid CFL to NFL prospect in 10 years.

So while you could be right, there is so much more saying he has high probability of sticking .. not to mention, a higher ceiling still.

I like his chances .. he may struggle at times adapting to much better players in NFL. But he has already beaten many odds just getting to this point.
