Figured this would help clear somethings up for folks. First time transfers will be immediately eligible (DJ, Abdou, Dusan) while second time (or more) transfers are not (Boyd and Fisher). Though the "hardship waivers" still exist for coaching changes or players who want to get closer to home. Both Fisher and Boyd will get one of these waivers and be immediately eligible.

Are Boyd and Fisher grad transfers and therefore immediately eligible?

So basically any one can transfer whenever and be eligible. Not many waivers get denied, right?
This sums it up pretty well.

And yes, both Boyd and Fisher are considered grad transfers with 2 years of eligibility remaining should they take advantage of their COVID extra year. I was just using "examples from home" how the rule might apply to the guys we have leaving.

I never realized that there was so much dissatisfaction with college basketball players. So much incredible transferring. It may be a sign of the times and even generational. Some of us probably recall in our younger days hearing encouragement to stick it out and don’t be a quitter when it gets tough or doesn’t go as planned. Tough times make tough-minded people or this will give you character or you made your decision now stick with it. Wow. How things have changed. Paris Lee’s mom seemed old school and I am so glad he listened!

Fisher has 2 years?? As a Senior who opted out, I thought he would have just one year left.

This one surprises me too. Didn’t he transfer from D1 to D1 to now D1? I thought if you transferred and used up your sit out year- covid extra didn’t apply. Crazy.

If I'm not mistaken the COVID eligibility just applied to everyone. Basically last year was a free year for everyone that doesn't count against eligibility.

This is correct, however I believe I have misspoken. Fisher would've been a senior last season had he not opted out. Had he played (2020-21), he would still have one year (2021-22) for the COVID rule regardless if he transferred or stayed.

Basically, eligibility-wise, every player enters the 2021-22 season with the same amount of eligibility as the beginning of the 2020-21 season. Incoming freshman (class of 2021) will return to the "five years to play four" loose model.

Times have changed for sure. We live in a culture of me-ness. Nobody is going to take the role of a good bench player anymore; they all think they should be starting, and if not here then somewhere else. Instead of going, wow, what can I do to make myself a better player and earn a starting spot where I currently reside.
