??? On his productivity at Michigan

Right, but he was on top 4 BCS Bowl team getting some role player reps. But he was their primary punt returner and had pretty good stats. I suspect he will be very good. I mean it's not like we're going to get 2-deeper to drop down, unless there's serious baggage or an injury.

Little more digging on AJ Henning ... he was one of the top return guys in the Big 10 over the last 2 seasons. He's going to make some people miss, and will likely play a nice flanker type role for us on offense. Imagine Annexstad being able to hand off to a healthy Mueller and Wright, combined with Henning moving around to different spots on the field with his quicks. Annexstad is going to love an addition like this. This could be the guy I thought Nigel White could be .. except Henning did this playing for one of the best FBS teams in the country.

I'm thinking AJ Henning is going to help us at several positions and make some opposing coaches nervous.

The more I see on Henning, he aint coming here, unless he really wants to make a mark and get more touches for shot at NFL ... but not looking at all likely.

A lot of B1G fans fighting over Henning on Twitter. Unfortunately, we do not stand a chance. He isn't going to drop down to FCS. It would be cool to see him at NIU, but it seems even they have little chance.

I guess this is almost a rhetorical question in the current state of the portal and all -- but how does a kid just decide he's going to go to Northwestern (or almost any of the "top" schools)? Don't you have to apply and be accepted and be a good student and so forth and so on? Doesn't it take months to get your app reviewed and scored and all of that??

I don't know the answer to all that, but Henning has his degree from Michigan. He will be starting his Master's at NW. Looks like he was all-academic BIG 10 twice while at Michigan.

Yeah, I wasn't disparaging Henning. Just sayin - anyone, anywhere, you don't just walk in and say, here I am, I'm in. Well, maybe you do - that's my question. How do these guys know they're going to be admitted to whatever school/major they want to pursue, do they have the grades, etc.? Isn't there an admissions process? Does the athletic department get so many slots they can allocate to guys coming in, etc?

With everything wrong with college athletics this is an area that has actually improved in my lifetime. I think you'll find that most college athletic programs have very good communication with the admissions dept. and they utilize academic advisement and tutoring very well. My guess is that Northwestern football already knows the criteria the admissions dept. uses and they "pre-approve" recruits or transfers before sending the information to the admissions dept. I also suspect that they get an expedited answer.

Also have you noticed that once admitted players rarely flunk out anymore? That used to be a thing. College coaches and D-I college football and basketball coaches in particular are all over players when it comes to academics. They definitely know if star players are going to class and if they attend study and tutoring sessions. Players can run into problems "not following team rules" long before they ever get an F.

It does not take long for kids to be admitted thru nomal process and athletes its even faster. Basically you in the portal coach I am majoring in xyz. Do you guys have xyz. Let me check can you send me an unofficial transcript we have your major and accept ___ credits from previous school...... ok you good. Send us the official transcript and Records. OK I am going to commit........

OK, I trust you guys. Just seemed odd to me. Not that the sociology department vetted me all that closely back in the last century!! ;)

Not a transfer but just saw this story

I know this kids dad, Kevin Casper ... freak athlete/hard worker, played at Iowa, later became strength & conditioning trainer. Walked on at Iowa as WR, left with single game, single season, and all time receptions record holder. Drafted 6th round, hung around for 6 years as kick returner and partly WR

So I'm betting the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. This guy is just undersized right know at 145 lbs .. walked on and earned a schollie in just 1 year. Keep and eye on this one .. will need some weight, but guessing this guy is a diamond in the rough .. another Spencer Schnell maybe.
