Massey's has 6 out of Top Ten from MVFC! Ive mentioned this before but I don't understand why we promote Rankings that are the least flattering to the Redbirds and the MVFC? I think ISU should begin a campaign to promote Massey over these popularity contests they call rankings, Stats. Massey is a more scientific ranking system anyway. Go Birds, great start, doing what they need to do to get ready for the second half and a playoff run. Get that O Line ready!!! Also,
I am sure we are doing it but we need to promote this with Recruits and FBS transfers. Coming to the MVFC is not a comedown!

3 words ... nope, make that 4 words ...STRENGTH OF F-ING SCHEDULE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put an objective SOS index (Massey or Sagarin or an average) next to every subjective poll .. the truth will set us free !! Then let the idiots be outted.

The polls are part of Massey. I don’t see the problem with people posting them when they come out. Just as I don’t see a problem posting Massey either.

Btw, Here are 2 computer rankings that are part of Massey:

I was at the JMU - Delaware game Saturday. Wasn't impressed in the slightest. DE doesn't have a QB so I can't really comment much about their secondary. They were able to load the box and hold DE in check. Offensively they have a QB who is their power RB. He knocked out 2 of the DE defenders from running over them. Their most effective play was dropping back to pass them scrambling. On a very windy day, only one pass was attempted over 30 yards.
Only down 7 points, DE decided to change QB's at 7:40 left in the 4th quarter. The only reason JMU won was because DE threw an incomplete pass out in the flat that the refs decided was a lateral (which came as a complete shock to everyone except them and the replay guy who said the call stands). That completely changed the momentum and was the winning score (outside of a late field goal they added on.)

thanks for this info.

I checked the JMU game notes .. it was 62 degrees, 14 mph winds. Their QB threw just 19 passes .. he was just 10 of 19 for 94 yards, no TDs, 1 pick. JMU ran 54 times and barely won. So 14 mph winds causes them to go all conservative with their all american QB ???

You know what we call 14 mph winds in central Illinois ? We call that Saturday game day. Unless he was banged up and nursing some arm injury, I can only assume he lacks arm strength.

USD is an interesting one. They beat FBS Bowling Green, but BGSU (0-5) is one of the worst FBS teams. I don't think they would finish in the top half of the MVFC this year. I rack this up to the EMU team we beat a few years back; maybe even worse than that.

The beat a ranked North Dakota team, but that ND team is now 1-4. They've also lost to FBS Utah (expected to lose), Montana State (1-3), and UC-Davis (3-2). It's not like they're losing to Pioneer teams, but they certainly were overrated at #10.

They slaughtered Drake 77-7 and were up 56-7 at the half. They had a very tight run defense with 34 carries for -1 yard. Drake also threw 3 picks and had six fumbles, losing one.

Their best win, by far, is definitely their 38-33 "shootout" win at WIU. Of course, that's a MVFC conference game!

You want a guaranteed #1 game of the week in college football next week: Youngstown State at South Dakota. You have a pair of match-ups with ranked FBS teams, but nothing like this battle of top-6 teams. Winner of this definitely gets a huge leg up in the playoff race with a big quality win.

Agreed that there is wide variability in the rankings that are included in Massey composite. Unfortunately, until the Gridiron Power Index comes out, I think it's the best we've got.

Very surprised with Youngstown State beating South Dakota State like they did, and holding their offense in check.

Also, I expected South Dakota to come back down to earth a little on the road at Western Illinois. I figured getting them out of the dome would slow them down a bit.

Needless to say, I think the polls are about where they should be. I guess if I had to rank the valley (in terms of shares), I'd say:

North Dakota State - 15 shares
Youngstown State - 14 shares
South Dakota State - 12 shares
South Dakota - 12 shares
Illinois State - 11 shares
Western Illinois - 10 shares
Northern Iowa - 9 shares
Southern Illinois - 7 shares
Indiana State - 6 shares
Missouri State - 4 shares

18 in the Coaches

Indeed, we are 18 in the coaches poll.

Am I misreading that poll, or does it have us at 7th?

The NCAA will not take 6 from the MVC...at this point ISU is out...7-4 will not be good enough this season.
