.....and the CEO of the Crimson Collective (Utah's NIL organization) is none other than Kyle Brennan. Kyle keeps putting deals together. I just hope he doesn't take a booster to see some strippers, that would be terrible.

I hope you're sitting down Reg, because I'm about to write something that you and I may both agree on.

All jokes aside, I'm not surprised that this deal got put together. Kyle was/is a fundraiser and a deal maker.
Yes, he got overzealous in his efforts and it cost him. If he had been raising money for XFL sponsorships he might have been fine, but he was raising money for a stodgy old public university, consequently the outing at Indy did not have a happy ending (ok one joke).
Even so, we have to careful not to overcorrect. We still need the AD to be a FUNDRAISER. You need to get in front of people and ask for the money. Lots of it. Kyle understood that and he'll do well as CEO of the Crimson Collective. Check that, he's already doing well.

This .. they wanted and got an alternative to Larry Lyons. Then fired him for being an alternative to Larry Lyons.

p.s. though there's always more to story, etc But they dipped their toe in deep end, and scurried away .. never to do this again. It is why we're financially sound and why we'll never go out on a limb. Mostly a good thing, especially when you compare us to all other state schools not named U of I ... but not always a good thing. Got to play the fund raising game(s) to some extent.

I thought Heller Ford has an NIL with a football player? He gets a new truck to drive every month or something?

Well, maybe I'm showing my "old and stodgy", but I don't think that Brennan (and the other guy who's name escapes me) were canned for their "outing" in Indy, they were canned for turning in reimbursement requests for certain parts of the outing. Two guys making the dough they were making could have easily paid for the Uber ride from the "outing". It was trying to use university "controlled" or "authorized" funds for those activities that got them in trouble. And I'm guessing most "big time" schools don't fund that kind of activity with their fund-raising arms knowingly, maybe under better cover than Brennan gave it.

Yes, I didn't mean to imply that the Indy outing was main the reason for his departure although I believe that events on the trip were a factor. I have stated previously that the main reason for his departure was likely related to two major gift pledges that never materialized. The original intent was to have 100% of the funding for the IPF to come from private donations. It didn't turn out that way.

"Illinois State University athletic director Larry Lyons said he's trying to lay the groundwork for a new indoor practice facility that would have to be funded entirely by private dollars."

I’ve heard from a few separate folks all saying that Brennan’s relationship with the Crimson Collective terminated prior to this deal being finalized. It looks like their website may not be up-to-date. If he is no longer there, it will be interesting to see where he resurfaces.

She's up over 1 million dollars in NIL deals now. It's amazing. One small contribution this board can make is following some of the players on Instagram and Twitter. Having followers on those platforms is one of the biggest selling points they have. Especially for the local stuff like this.

There was a pattern of behavior with Brennan that got him fired. If having pledges not materialize got you fired there would be no fundraisers left. The strip club thing is ugly but that alone could have been swept under the rug. Ask yourself why he left so quietly.

It's not just having pledges not materialize. I know that happens. But several people including the AD are expected to do some vetting along the way. The board required that 70% of the funding to be in place prior to approval.
"Authority to proceed with construction is contingent upon the verified identification of 70 percent ($8.05 million) of the total $11.5 million project cost. "
If any board members felt like they were misled regarding major pledges, then that can get you fired.
I don't have to ask why he left so quietly. I have heard additional reasons for his departure but I believe the failed pledges were a factor. You can tolerate a lot of things if the AD is pulling in multiple 3 million-dollar donations.
