Similar to the sycamores game plan last year? I'll take that.
We shot 4-16 from three in that game. And foster and lewis combined for 25 points and 25 rebounds. Not sure that game is the example of our current roster construction.

That's what worries me. We haven't had much success finding shooters or developing them. The other problem with the 4/1 offense is rebounding. We better have a big that can rebound, and guards that are hard-nosed.

We can probably give up a lot of hope of crashing the offensive boards. Playing 4 and 1, we are more or less going to strand 1 guy in to rebound while the wings pull back to defend. Even if we designate a wing to crash we still likely aren't going to have a lot of success.

Defensively we are going to need to make sure our wings crash the boards. Their first instinct is going to be to start running down the floor after a shot is up to possibly start a fast break, but we will need everyone to crash the boards defensively. Make sure they know you can't start a break without the ball.

Our backcourt/wings also need to be athletic and have some endurance. At the slight risk of not getting fully back on D, I want our shooters to start following their shots more. It's frustrating to lose long boards that we could grab and extend possessions if guys take a few steps in instead of watching the pretty ball in flight.

We were probably the worst 3-point shooting team I had seen in a long time last year. We added a few guys but also brought back a few that struggled. I hope we figure that end out. I find it mind-boggling that were are going to pretend shooting is our expertise.

Burford, Lewis, Kasubke and Foster combined to shoot 53/208 from beyond the arc. I think it's safe to say ISU's shooting numbers from three-point range are going to be much better than last year, even if it doesn't fit the narrative for several posters on this board.

Yes.

My quick figuring says the Birds would have been in the top 100 NCAA in 3 pt % if they'd hit 38 more baskets over their 32 games. Or a little more than 1 per game. Think about that for a while - another make per game and they'd have been right there, and we might be griping some about their shooting, but we wouldn't be disgusted by it. They were awful, but it isn't gonna take a miracle to turn it around, just a few less chucks and a couple guys who can get their shot.

45 more makes and they'd have been top 50!

Let's be honest. We won't be worse rebounding team than last year. If you look at the number of shots we missed last season we should have had more rebounds that what we did. The last time we had a 4 that could strike it from deep was Hawkins. Those were good years.

I'm not commenting on the new additions until they step foot on the court. D2 and High School games are a much different animal compared to D1 defense. I just know looking at those numbers below- it's going to be a long season if we don't sit in the gym all summer.

Kinzinger .392
Banks .302
Poindexter .336
Davis .270
Pence .043

Im interested to see how the offense/scheme looks to be a spread offense. Moving without the ball and ball movement hasn’t been a strength up to this point with the staff. Those two things are even more vital to get the quality shots they’re wanting in an offense like this.

I feel like the only person here looking at reality. We lost a double/double machine and picked up-what? We signed a couple of players no one else wanted. That’s it. JK and CW plus, some guys who didn’t produce well last year and couldn’t go anywhere else, and some unproven freshman. That’s it. I’m not seeing any reason to believe or even hope for anything better here.

Well the guys we got had interest from other schools. And the guys transferring in did produce last season.

Agreed. I’m not saying we picked up bad players. I just don’t get that warm fuzzy that this team can go into pee-oria and win; let alone the MVC tournament. I don’t see the impact players. Hope I’m wrong. Hope Pedon has some magic touch. I’m just not feeling it.
