Aside from all the dumb coach and player leaving speculation, we just lost two games for one reason IMHO. Turnovers. Just not taking care of the ball. It's something we can clean up.

Maybe HCIW at Pitt

I think there is a better chance of Stallings looking for a job than that. KS isn’t exactly tearing it up at his new job.

Then they're probably hoping for a new head coach so a perfect opportunity

Agreed. The main culprit, for reasons already stated based on necessity, is our best player, need to clean that up. Overall, giving up 75.5 pts./ game and -6.6 on the boards/game, also two areas that need to be improved. This team is not that much better or that much worse than any other team in the league this year. Improvements and adjustments to the current state need to be made and executed on a game by game basis. Two games back, lot of basketball to be played.

In the history of the MVC has a coach ever left for a BCS Head job without dancing?

I guess one could leave for the American Conf, Atlantic 10, mountain West, etc. When was the last time that happened?

I do remember Kevin McKenna leaving Indy State to be an asst at Oregon.
Cuonzo Martin to Tennessee after 3 years in Springfield. His last season at MSU they went 26-9/15-3. They won the regular season MVC crown, but didn't get an at-large when they didn't win the tourney. Lost in the 2nd round of the NIT. His first two years at MSU, he was 11-20/3-15, and 24-12/8-10 (won the CIT).

Good points, Michigan Red. Really a turnover is a very bad thing. Very often, it leads to a fast break score for the opponent, especially on a stolen pass as are most of our turnovers. The defender quickly turns from a chance to score for us gone to an easy quick momenttum changing basket for the other team. A turnover changes over a whole myriad of stats including rebounds. These bad passes are more about taking that extra half second.

Honestly--and I mean this as a compliment--I was surprised you didn't know.

Something buried in all this is the loss of Coach Yak to Michigan. He's known for coaching defense. There was always going to be regression with Paris and Tony graduating and Deontae and Mikyle moving on, but Yak is enjoying rave reviews for the throttling Michigan just delivered at Sparty.

I have no idea how much credit (and also blame) you can assign a coach, but let's remember it's significant that Muller not only has a lot of players he's breaking into his system this year, but also a pair of coaches on his bench. I'm sure he won't use this as an excuse, but it can't be easy to carry over last year's expectations on D with so much turnover.

Good point on Coach Yak and I do think we over look this

Would anybody think Yak as an eventual replacement here for when Dan leaves? Seems like he's earned a shot.

My conspiracy theory side of me thought that immediately when I heard about how Muller helped Yak get the job at Michigan. They are supposedly very good friends and I thought maybe their plan was for Yak to get some experience at a big name college as an assistant so that he could come back in a couple of years to be the head coach at ISU when Muller bolts? I would be the first to admit it is ALL conjecture.
