We probably haven't been giving this guy enough credit because we finally have a pass game for first time in a hwile. But he just keeps plugging away. At first he was looking like a big play back. But he is also a bit of a grinder as well.

Blakemore Named MVFC Newcomer of the Week - Illinois State University Athletics

Going to need him a lot this week without Annexstad. Anyways, this guy is very good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He may not make it to 1000 yards, but I want to publicly grovel again for doubting him coming in, due to lack of PT in DeKalb. He's been pretty solid, which he's had to be since Cole hasn't come back all the way yet. Even Wenkers has looked sort of ordinary this year. We've needed what Blakemore has delivered.

We can never doubt players sometimes its the system or coaches. Remember per team coverage Cole was spared during spring and summer camp was basically name as the starter but we were to have a three head monster. He may get a 1000 yds... The kid is a trooper remember he got hurt his shoulder in Eastern Illinois game and did not play Lindenwood game. Wright is above just ordinary ! He has produce with the # of carries he has been given. He is averaging 8.4 ypc. Would love to see Blakemore and Wright in backfield at same time a lot more to really make defense choose their poison. The offense has improve but could even be more potent. This goes back to coaches utilizing there depth and also not basing things on players past success and friendships. Just put the best players on the field and utilizing 2's and some 3's so team builds up experiences as well as keep team chemistry when all feel they contributed to the teams success which also keeps guys from entering the portal.

Blakemore now sits at 882 yards and 12 touchdowns in only 8 games. Just incredible production.

Yep, and considering how much we throw it this year. Crazy that he was getting so few reps at NIU .. MVFC is right there with MAC competitively, maybe a half notch below in talent at skill positions. But right there on defense and the interior lines. He just needed a real shot without looking over his shoulder, I'm guessing.

He's another guy who's success will attract future RB transfers. Not that we usually need help at RB, like we do at QB ... but we did this season .. what a find !!!!!

p.s. I aint gonna lie .. i was so glad to see Cole Mueller get that big run. Must have felt really good for him given what he's been through the last 2 seasons. He was our stud before his injury just 3 carries into 2022. Maybe one more offseason will be enough to get him closer to his old 100%

Might as well put here .. Mason Blakemore finished the season strong:
  • #1 in rush ypg
  • #1 in rush TDs
  • #2 in total rush yards due to 1 missed game
  • #5 in rush ypc ... behind our own Wenkers Wright, who was 7.5 ypc
Considering how much we threw the ball this year, very impressive and a great get for ISU. And hes got one more year still !!
