Post-Season Bids

Full disclosure...when these tourneys came out, I thought they were a joke, but if you like bball, it simply means MORE bball. The ncaa is screwing over the smaller conferences with the NIT change so some decent teams will be available. So if the team wants to play, then by all means, play ball.
 
Man, good for Evansville. God knows the have been through enough losing this past few years. That is a big plus for their program, extended practices, experience and recruiting. Good for them!

What sucks is that should have been us! We have two chances vs. a 3 win Valpo team and an Evansville team that had lost seven in a row and WE could not get it done. DAMN!!!! Missed opportunity big time.

I know it's a money loser. But would it be a good idea to get Johnny K and Chase some more experience? Even if it's one more game. Technically they can't practice and what not right now unless they are one of these tournaments, right? Is that what Evansville is doing here? Getting some of their younger guys more exprience.

I was always under the impression that for the NIT, CBI or CIT you had to have at least a .500 record. The NCAA you can technically win your conference tournament and get in with a losing record.

This year that is not the case with Evansville 16-17. So I am assuming they successfully “bought” a game and maybe agreed to go on the road????
 
CBI=check before invitation or Venmo if you’re younger.

The NIT could possibly have teams with losing records participating also as they are guaranteeing at least two spots from the power 6 conferences.

With the CBI, all games are at a neutral site (Daytona Beach). It might be cheaper to have them go to the same location for a few days. You rent/prepare one arena. You get officials who get an easy X games in the 5 days.

Technically neither CBI or The Basketball Classic (formerly the CIT) have any rules to entry. They tend to try to get winning teams into each tourney, but neither is a stickler about it.

Since both the NIT and the NCAA are invitational tourneys there is also technically nothing that states you have to have a winning record to get an at large bid. There likely should be some rules set in place for at larges to the NCAA tourney, but the Power 6 will never let it happen because it would reduce the number of teams they get in.

They don’t even try to attach an “academic requirement” like they did to determine the eligibility of 5-7 teams to fill vacant bowl slots once all the supply of middling 6-6 teams was exhausted.

If .500 was to become a requirement I’d imagine you’d see lower-tier P5s Jankify their schedules to ensure cosmetic adhesion to this arbitrary ideal.

Were I king of the world, I'd likely throw in the rules that say you have to have at least 20 wins (or roughly win 2/3s of the games you play) and finish at .500 or above in your conference. But, that would ultimately drop the number of P5 teams that get in, so it will never happen.
 
Reeves might knock Texas A&M out tomorrow with a win. Some are currently projecting A&M as a last 4 team in. I would hope that they will not make it at 19-14, especially not over Indiana State.

Several folks still have Iowa on the bubble at 18-14, so I would say 19-14 isn't out of the running.

I think Indiana State has a chance. The good news for them is that they've been getting all the right press to end the year. Robbie Avila has been at least one national sports talk show (the Dan Lebatard Show) talking about his nicknames and gaining attention. Several sports media folks that get a lot of reads have been hyping them up. So, I think they have a shot at making it. They just likely get the last 4 in and end up in one of the play in games or something.

Playing in Dayton PIG might not be a bad thing for them. Not a bad drive for the Tree faithful.
