They are trying to help other athletes, but yeah. Still don't like it.

In each episode, two athletes will compete in physical challenges that include acquiring various amounts of “money” throughout the show. Whoever collects the most money by the end of the episode, is the winning athlete, and they will get to select an amateur athlete of their choice to come work with Cash App on a possible personal NIL deal.

Interesting article, says IRS is developing rules for NIL groups, may say they aren't tax-exempt, so some donations may die.

The rapidly expanding landscape of nonprofit, donor-backed collectives paying college athletes to promote charities has been hit with a potentially seismic disruption.

A recent 12-page memo from the Internal Revenue Service determined that, in many cases, such collectives may not qualify as tax-exempt if their main purpose is paying players instead of supporting charitable works.

If the collectives aren’t tax-exempt, the donations they collect that are used to pay quarterbacks, point guards and pitchers may not be, either.

More "the end is near" craziness. Indy HS senior-to-be is contacted by several "academies" and ends up enrolling in some kind of "league" in Georgia for his senior year, is able to make money from "NIL"?? Or something like that. What the heck is going on??

One of the state’s top high school basketball players is leaving the state for his senior season.

Brownsburg standout and Purdue recruit Kanon Catchings plans to play at Overtime Elite, an elite basketball league in Atlanta that started in 2021.
There were a lot of prep schools reaching out in the last year or so, but he wasn’t interested in them because Brownsburg was such a good option.”
Overtime Elite generated headlines when it started as an upstart professional league offering $100,000 contracts to top high school players. At the time, it was viewed as competition for college coaches looking to recruit the same players. But now, due to NIL legislation, college athletes are allowed to profit off their own image. Players like Catchings can sign as scholarship students and pursue NIL opportunities while staying eligible for college.

Tauja Catchings said it is tough for her, too. But part of the draw of Overtime Elite has nothing to do with basketball. “Traditional school has not been easy for him,” she said. “With his goals (in basketball), there are things that Overtime Elite can offer from the business of basketball that you aren’t going to get in a traditional school.

OTE isn’t exactly brand new. There were multiple guys drafted from it and some are eligible for college.

Not exactly brand new, founded in fall of 2021. So less than two years old. And new to me. So????
I meant more it’s been announced for a few years and decently publicized. Not some brand new thing
