Had a great 10-15 minute conversation with HCDM tonight at the Cubs game alumni event. He is pumped to have Chris Duhon and as predicted, the guards were a little starstruck when they saw him wandering the halls of Redbird arena.

Good talking to Dan, we talked a lot about players that have come and gone as well as the team that we currently have. He’s definitely pumped for the team this year and the program going forward.
Pretty impressive saxman! you had him cornered for 15 min? Surely you got more info, especially about AN and his acceptance? He have anything to say about our PG situation, especially EC’s development? Any news about the new pieces that just became eligible and who’s looking to steal some minutes? I’m pretty sure all my million questions wouldn’t have hit me until he left.

So let me get this straight.

We have a Tar Heel...AND...a Blue Devil on the same staff?? A close, intimate staff? Hehehe that doesn't fly down on Tobacco Road and how the heck Muller pulled it off, I don't know - but I'm glad to have them here!

Two national champions from the greatest rivalry in college basketball and we've got 'em right here in Normal. The staff pickup games would be interesting to watch...

Regarding AN. I believe what could happen is the young man comes to school on scholarship but is not
eligible until next year. Just reading between the lines, rumor and Muller's comments. I'll bet it's a longshot
at him being eligible this fall. Now if he doesn't qualify for a scholly - then what, u put him in a Prep School and probably
lose him as the Big Boys will be all over that. Loyalty has an expiration date.

The good news on that front would be that Bruninga should get a lot of minutes at the wing 4. He needs all
the minutes he can get this year and bring the shooting.

No matter - it's all Good. Muller doing a great job at getting kids to central Illinois.

I like the hire as long as the problems of his past are behind him. The reason he resigned from Marshall was because he got arrested for driving while license revoked again according to that article. Hopefully he's got his license taken care of and he won't make that mistake again.

From a pure basketball standpoint, you've gotta guy who has won a national championship and knows what it takes to get drafted. Our guards AND Milik should be thrilled to have someone with his experience in their corner.

I hope he doesn't ride around Normal with Milik very often.

Yeah, it was a good conversation. We chatted a lot about players of the past, PLEE comes home this week after losing in their championship game in Belgium. We talked briefly about playing overseas and the issues that Osiris is having with getting paid and he said that all of that is just a problem of playing overseas. He said he still talks to Mikyle, Teddy, Tony, etc.

As for this year, he said "we're going to be really, really good" and that the cupboard is stocked for years to come. Made mention that this should be the first year of many that the Birds have an NCAA tournament worthy team. I laughed and said that 2 years ago should have been the first of many and he grimaced and said that we can't control the committee.

We talked about President Hein and his unselfishness and he said that the player we signed because of that unselfishness is going to be a stud and someone we rely on next year after he sits for the transfer year. I asked him if he was happy with the recruiting class and he said he was very happy and I said, "well, it's a full class" and he sorta rolled his eyes and said it definitely is that.

Not gonna lie, all of the Abdou stuff didn't enter my mind when I was talking to him, so I didn't ask him about it. We also talked about Matt Chastain and what a good kid he is and his recruitment out of high school and how all of that came about.

As for EC, he said he's playing overseas in Sweden for their under 20 team so he hasn't seen him. When we talked about Duhon, he said that Keyshawn was excited to have Duhon as a coach and we talked about how Elijah would have been around 9 years old when Duhon was in his prime so it may not click as much with him as some of the older players of how good Duhon was as a player.

That's about all I got from our conversation. I do enjoy how personable Dan is, similar to Porter when he was at ISU.

we run into Dan here and there and he is always approachable and willing to talk. He's a super guy and I am happy he is our coach.

Thanks for the report. This is an interesting line. The player we got because of him is Keith Fisher, who I and others have equated to Phil Fayne 2.0

“(Muller) did his due diligence,” Duhon said. “We had multiple conversations and felt it was something that could work. (Illinois State) has a great tradition. It’s a basketball town. They play at a high level. This is a place that we can win. We can make some noise and make a run at winning a national championship.”

Lets goooo!!!
