MVC Players in 2024 Portal

2 full days into the portal season and I will guess all the Redbird player meetings are complete? And here we are...

I’m not sure about that. I think the Sissoko meeting was a no brainer on not wanting to waste a roster spot on someone who was never going to contribute. Or maybe Sissoko didn’t even need a meeting and saw the writing on the wall.

I'm thinking most of the meetings with the 5th year guys who could return was something along the lines of, "You are welcome to return, we enjoy having you around. We see your role as ______ if you would like to seek an opportunity that would give you something else, we fully support your decision." That blank could be anything from starter, to 6th man, to deep bench, to scout team.

I feel good about all of the freshmen being back (that's never bit us in the ass, right?). So the question marks are around Banks, Burford, Davis, Foster, Kasubke, Lieb, and Poindexter.

I get a sense Banks and Poindexter will be back. But again, I don't know anything.

As I've said before, if we keep all 3 of Johnny, Chase and Myles I'll be pleasantly shocked.

I’m hoping and guessing that no key guys leave program and Pedon’s management style.
I am hoping Coach is very direct bout some leaving - he’s in the role to make that happen for Success and moving us to Top 4 in MVC.
Pedon is in Yr 3 and has no excuses as to what skill is needed to compete. If he doesn’t ACT then I’m Very Concerned about his future with Redbirds. I firmly believe in him but…… this spring is his time to shine and show us what he’s made of in recruiting/building.
I’m not willing to share names but just look at Stats and u know who are the candidates to depart - very straightforward thinking.
What I don’t have is a feel for is the challenge for Coach and staff to bring players in vs the competition- we have a fine University, playing time and young men will b treated fairly and with respect.

Pedon has done fine in HS recruits but previous Portal is a lower success rate and that Must Change. We gotta do better in Spring resources.

UIC, SIU, MOST will be in a rebuild. It's very likely Drake and INST will be looking for new HCs as well. Valpo is showing some signs of progress with the announcement of their key pieces coming back. I've thought the last few years UNI was immune to the Portal Flu but they've been hit harder than they have, I'm going to say ever. There is ZERO reason the Redbirds shouldn't finish top 4 if there are 5 new HCs in the league.

Assuming Pedon maintains a solid core, I'm sure we all know the 6ish guys we're talking about and bring in some pieces to replace and enhance, then there should be a significant jump in year 3.

Per my unofficial count, UNI now has 5 in the Portal. I suspect they did not want to lose Heise, but Ben J may have told the rest of them their upcoming roles and they decided to leave. UNI has a great opportunity to chop and add. I was hoping we would have that too with the right 3-4 departing and that may still happen. I remember Liam did not enter the portal last year until later in the period. It is also may say the players really like Coach P and want to play for him. That is also a good thing. This is a fun time of the year.

I'm still trying to figure out why the Kinzone isn't on the menu yet. Guessing there would need to be some Wisconsin cheese curds in there...

Not catchy enough. If you were taller enough to be a baller we’d have A-Dunkers on the menu yesterday with a nice check headed your way.
