I would be open to having UMKC if they had better athletic programs, specifically MBB. With that being said, I would MUCH rather go with UIC and Murray State. I think they would both be a great add. I would be rather disappointed if we added UMKC. Maybe we could reexamine them at a future time.

If we added 4 teams and took UMKC and UTA along with Murray St and UIC, I'd be alright. But, adding UMKC will not improve the Valley's standing in any sport, nor increase anyone's draw in terms of recruiting for athletics or general students. For me, it would be a bad add.

DePaul's last 14 years as an independent, when they played less games, they were 228 games over .500. They are 114 games below .500 in their last 17 years since joining the Big East. That is including all of their non-conference games. With Loyola leaving, I am guessing DePaul could step right in, improve their program, and be a dominant force in the Valley. I doubt money has nothing to do with them being in the big east still. :)

My bad, I meant to say that maybe we could look at starting to play them again. This would give ISU yet another Chicago based game. I highly doubt there would be any interest from them to drop out of the big least and join the valley. Can you imagine the uproar from their 27 fans?

I heard a lot of this when we brought Loyola in and now Loyola has kept our conference relevant for a few years now. The key is to find the other Loyola's out there that need the right conference to flourish to bring the Valley back to the glory days of the mid 2000's. Also, we should focus more on why ISU is not consistently dominating the conference before we start to worry about the worthiness and fit of the other school's in the conference.
Well said! 👍

I seriously wonder what their older fans think of them being in the Big East where they have never made the tournament. However, their win-loss records from 1977-82 were 27-3, 26-6, 26-2, 27-2, 26-2, not to mention a 28-3 season in 86-87.

I know a DePaul fan, who was watching DePaul games in his diaper. He understands they have no shot, but he enjoys riding the coat tails of the other big least teams. He does get to see some good bball when the other schools travel to Chicago for their annual DePaul beatdown.

We'd have to poll the remaining 26 fans to get their take on being the floor mat. Does anyone have 45 mins to call these guys?

I mean, the games are only 2 hours long and there's half time. There's no real need for a diaper. I like the commitment though.

Illinois-Chicago (if the need/want to preserve a Chicago presence is there) and Murray State would be my first two choices. If there has to be two more I would prefer Northern Kentucky as one and maybe Arkansas-Little Rock as the other. Missouri-Kansas City fits the geographic footprint and if there is a want to get into bigger markets than it makes some sense (Texas-Arlington does for that reason, but that kind of reminds me of the mid-80s with New Mexico State and West Texas State) but neither program has done much.

Maybe they will go back to the days of travelling partners.

Please no Omaha or KC!! I would prefer UIC and Murray. I would pass on the remainder. As each year passes I am become more convinced that ISU and the other public schools need to leave the MVC. Create a conference with selected schools from the MVFC or join another conference. ... do something. I don't think being part of a conference where 6 or 8 others schools don't have the same goals will work like it did the past. Just my opinion and I didn't always lean this way.

Hello everyone. long time reader 1st time poster. I Think the mvc should take all 5 of the schools that are applying and also ask Siu Edwardsville to join. this will make the mvc the 1st midmajor superconference with 16 teams. This is the direction that sports isheading We need to get out in front of this

I'd be okay with 6 more adds but it would have to be murray, nku, ndsu, sdsu, uic, st thomas.

So states Frank the Tank. I do wonder, however, how the public presidents think about these basketball schools with no bball track record. I guess we will find out. Then again who are we to talk.

I still prefer the MVFC break off and form a new conference. The privates and their new found friends can still call themselves the Missouri Valley Conference. We on the other hand would be a member of The Big Valley.

South Division

Illinois State
Indiana State
Missouri State
Murray State
Southeast Missouri State (facilities getting big improvements)
Southern Illinois

North Division

North Dakota
North Dakota State
Northern Iowa
South Dakota
South Dakota State
St. Thomas

Geographically, I guess we could call ourselves the Big Midwest or just go back to the Gateway. The nothing to see in these states conference.

Seriously, no miracle is coming like Wichita state or Dayton. That died with Loyola. We're also not moving up. The best thing to do would be to create this one conference for all sports with like minded public + St. Thomas who is just a good program in the same area with similar goals. Basically, the MAC of FCS.

the only problem with that is some of those schools are having big problems with declining enrollments
