DePaul would try to block LUC from the Big East. LUC may not have the facility they want, anyway.

Funny part is DePaul has sucked for years. LUC would be a better choice over DePaul. If DePaul tries to block I'd say accept or we'll just swap you for them. And, if the Big East came calling I'm sure they LUC has the money for a 7,000 seat venue. But, I don't think that matters. St. John's only has 5,600 capacity but can play big games in the Garden. LUC can play big games in Rosemont or the United Center. They could even play at Wintrust (it's not owned by DePaul contrary to popular belief. They just play there)

I don't know about the Big East but Loyola is one of the most likely MVC team's to move up if that were ever to happen to an MVC basketball oriented team.

Glad it's going to be a packed house---and it should be. Loyola has had a great season, they should be drawing well. Add in the fact it's a national TV game against a budding in-state rival and it should be a loud, fun atmosphere.

Admittedly happy for Porter too. Great guy who really had a baptism under fire of sorts when he coached us. He had to deal with a lot of roster transition & try to field a competitive team while the Valley was at it's peak as a conference. We were pretty competitive in two of his four years and he stocked the cupboard rather well for Jank's first year. Always knew he'd land somewhere in the near future and make a big impact...and voila! He's done a great job at Loyola, not just this season.

Now, maybe they think their work is done and will show up a bit lax and we can steal one :p

Because of the Chicagoland market?

Write up from the Rambler fan site.
I'm not sure I would describe Hein as "more offense-minded."

"Coach Dan Mueller will likely start guards 6’ junior Keyshawn Evans, 6’6” junior William Tinsley, and 6’3” sophomore Matt Hein, along with 6’6” forward Malik Yarbrough and 7’ center Daouda Ndiaye. Forwards Phil Fayne (ankle sprain) and Tyler Bruninga (concussion) have been coming off the bench to start games since their recovery, and defensive ace Madison Williams, a 6’3” sophomore guard, was recently replaced as a starter by the more offense-minded Hein. Six-four freshman guard Elijah Clarance and 6’5” guard Issac Gassman also see considerable time off the bench."

This conversation has me chuckling. How many posters slammed the Valley for taking Loyola in the first place, and now some are predicting they are gonna move up from the Valley. I got slammed saying it was a good move, and the Valley would be cheering LUC's success because of their market size. Soooo.... Lots of coverage in the Trib and Chitown R -TV. A sold out game. And we are the opponent in what has become a notable game in the Windy City on ESPN2. Tickets are going 20x face value.

Really, it just seems we have some of the most bipolar posters in the message board world. Any kind of spin to make things look bad and that ISU and the Valley can't do anything right. First we suck for taking Loyola. Now we suck because we will not be able to keep Loyola? OK. So it goes reading Redbirdfan :)

moser before this year has never finished higher than 5th as a head coach. Be it at Loyola, Little Rock or us.

Is he building something that might have some top of the conference staying power or this year a 1 year outlier like Drake had with Keno Davis and Adam Emmencher?

And as well as they have played this year isn’t their average attendance is 2,222. The worst in the league by 500 (valpo, who is gonna be the 10 seed averages 2,722).

Also for being Conference Champs they sold 225 all session tickets. 225 is required by the mvc. So in reality, Loyola athletics might be eating some of those.

Let that all sink in. Their best team in like 30 years....

True on the first point. He's had competitive teams at each of his stops but never able to get over the hump in that upper tier until now. I'm glad for him that he finally did. Also, they did win the CBI (or was it CIT?) a couple years ago and I think that was their first postseason appearance since....? a long ass time.

Time will tell if this is sustainable or a flash in the pan. But this season shouldn't hurt their recruiting or fanbase in the short term.

You just had to bring up Emmenecher didn't you? God I hated him as a player. Seems to be a pretty good broadcaster though.

Per usual, prices have dropped day of game. 22 tickets being sold $75-225. 18 of which are under $150.
