That would be my sentiment. ISUr needs to see massive improvement this year, or it is time to reload and rebuild in regards to management. ISUr needs to find that men’s basketball coach that can navigate these new waters we find ourselves in. Hopefully current management is up to the task. This day and age three years is a long time when you can reload and rebuild every year. If not ISUr will start resembling a low level place to play versus others in the valley.
💯 agree with this and @Baltimore Bird's comments. I know I'm biased but there should be no reason Illinois State basketball shouldn't be a the top of the Valley every year. We have the best university, location and facilities in the MVC by far. Yes, I drink ISU koolaid but I think any objective person would agree.

I guess my questions are, is this all we can expect to come to Normal in the new normal, NIL, portal, etc.?

Is this all the coaching staff is going for because we want to be loyal to current players and we are hoping a couple sophomores improve greatly and two freshman come ready to play division 1 basketball?

In a what looks to be very weak MVC is fourth or fifth place really any kind of a moral victory?

Guess I was hoping for at least one impact player.

ISU (and all non-P5 high majors, really) need salesman capable of bringing in talent. We need closers, not the 'coach em up" style of Ben Jacobsem. A good coach in the modern era can generate a winning team from portal acquisitions and a single offseason. As evidenced by the past few years, our coach simply cannot. He's got to go.

Heck, if the Shoe AD wasn't going to hire for this exclusive need, we should have just stuck with Dan Muller.

How can a salesmen close a deal in this era of college sports without massive amounts of NIL money?

Good question.

I have no idea, but id rather put it in the hands of an AAU coach where transactional basketball relationships are the norm. Us college ball fans (and most coaches) can shudder in horror all we want, but refusing to adapt to this landscape is program suicide.

(It's also program suicide to produce multigender, multisport schedule posters. My kids middle school doesn't even do that!)

The promise of NIL money down the line, whether it is here or at another school that he shows off to here. MVC currently seems to be a pretty good pipeline to Power Conference NIL money.
