The AD after Bowman and the President were non-engaged in ISU athletic.
Man I disagree with this. You, and others, just don't care for how they went about doing it.

Dietz is quite accessible. I see he and his wife at most every home bball and fball game and I still run into him around campus when I happen to be around. I've had deeper convos with him (not at games) about a couple of topics, including Dan. I'd love to be in a threesome (ummm, scratch that) with you, Dr. Dietz, and myself as a silent observer.
(the more I read that line the funnier it gets. I went to Faux Pas U but was flunked out by Professor Hulka)

I could see 2 guys like you'se becoming friends and enjoying several good conversation lunches every year...all the while getting an even broader perspective on our beloved Illinois State University. I encourage you to look into it!✌

I will say I've enjoyed the back and forth regarding this topic, Redbirdfan.net. I'm thankful that it's been way more than people slinging easy mud or cheap fanfare. Hek some of these posts had biceps!

*EDIT: You changed the wording of your post I quoted.

Curious what all they base these rankings on. I would need to read up on this site: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-colleges/articles/rankings-methodologies

But for more perspective on these US news rankings, this 209 ranking is of 1,692 schools, which is just outside the top 10%-ile at 12.35% ... this isn't bad at all. U of I is ranked #80 ... which is just inside the top 5%.

https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities
USNews college rankings is controversial and more and more and more institutions have declined to participate in it. However, if I were making a pitch to a conference, I would use it along with any other measure that paints us in a positive light. For instance, Missouri state is in the 300s and I believe northern Iowa is considered a regional university not a national university.

UIUC is ranked 35
UIC is 82

fan board and agree with you that at times we all have different perspectives. where i can i try to provide facts but not always the case as we all use our perspectives too....as for dietz he seemed to sit back and let the program do its thing....he was also at the helm when muller's contract was signed so there's that too.

ps like your advice

I believe we will be in the regional category until we have more doctorate/masters programs and more research.

from the link
How Ranks Are Determined
We calculated 10 distinct overall rankings where colleges and universities were compared with schools that shared their academic missions:

  • National Universities offer a range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs, and emphasize faculty research or award professional practice doctorates.
  • National Liberal Arts Colleges focus almost exclusively on undergraduate education and award at least 50% of their degrees in the arts and sciences.
  • Regional Universities offer a broad scope of undergraduate degrees and some master's degree programs but few, if any, doctoral programs. We ranked them in four geographical groups: North, South, Midwest and West.
  • Regional Colleges focus on undergraduate education but grant fewer than 50% of their degrees in liberal arts disciplines. Some regional colleges award two-year associate degrees as well as bachelor's degrees. We ranked them in four geographical groups: North, South, Midwest and West.
The above were mapped for the second consecutive year with The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education's 2021 update to its Basic Classification system (see details here).

US News has ISU in the national universities group.

In the last 40 years Illinois State University has built CEFCU Arena, Hancock 2.0, the Indoor Practice Facility, the Owen Strength and Conditioning Center, the Mounier Golf Training Center, the Gregory St. Tennis courts, Duffy Bass Field & The Paul Dejong Baseball Training facility, the Redbird Track & Field Complex, the Kneer Softball Complex, as well as upgrading the Men's Basketball locker room, meeting room and player lounge. I may have missed some things.

On the academic side Illinois State has added majors in Cybersecurity, Nursing and Engineering. If you go back a full 40-50 years, I am sure that I am missing many others.

The academic performance of Illinois State student-athletes has been exemplary as they flood the Honor Roll.

Illinois State University has positioned itself well above many other Illinois public universities that are battling declining enrollment. If you're looking for an affordable/quality public university education in the state of Illinois, your choices are basically the University of Illinois and Illinois State University.

The prudent use of resources along with plans for sound and steady growth has placed Illinois State University in an enviable position with excellent prospects for continued long-term success.

Sensible post. Kinda puts things in perspective.

Great article on FCS realignment and CUSA and MAC. FBS crowd - don't get your hopes up.

No mention of our Redbirds, almost certainly because we actually have no official interest. Thanks for sharing this.

So the MAC has publicly confirmed on-going discussions w WKU and a preference for them as their 14th school. The MAC has also publicly discussed Delaware, who appear to be their second choice.

Delaware is going CUSA and has reaffirmed their choice. Allegedly Missouri State is going CUSA and WKU will stay. Don’t take anything as absolute in realignment until it happens.

Thanks. I should've read the whole article instead of skipping to the MAC. So it's WKU or bust for them? That lines up w what the MAC commissioner said in a recent interview - that they'd be comfortable staying at 13 if the right fit doesn't present itself.

This would imply the window with the MAC may remain open for a while. We have a president now. AD should follow.
