If this happens, are we in?

I think we are in at 7-4, but as I said a month back....it's not a lock. We might say that to try to make ourselves feel good, but we have not had that good of a year, and one of those loses being Butler stings a little.

my whole concern is whether FCS committee will take 6 from MVFC, because they would have to in following realitic scenario

Hi guys, hope you don't mind me chiming in on things. My personal (non-expert) feeling on this is that if the Redbirds win, they're in.

You'd have beaten NDSU and USD, took SDSU to OT on their home turf, went 2-1 OOC with the loss being to currently 7-3 Northern Arizona (could be 8-3 if they beat Southern Utah next weekend). Yes, you lost to SIU...which is the one big "knock" against you, but if the committee is paying attention at all, they'll realize that SIU's QB Straub is a great passing QB and with him healthy all season, they're likely a 6-5 or 7-4 team. He did better against you guys than Taryn Christion or Case Cookus did.

As for taking 6 from the MVFC, I don't think the committee really looks that closely at how many teams they're bringing from each conference. It's more about individual teams, their records, and who they played (and how well they played against them). If there's 6 worthy teams from the MVFC...6 will get it. Sure it's never happened before, but a 6-5 team had never gotten an at-large bid to the playoffs either before two years ago...until Western did it...and then last year...when you guys did it. If any conference is going to do it, it's ours.

My view:
NDSU, SDSU - in no matter what happens
USD - win and their in, lose and they're on the bubble
WIU - win and we're in, lose and we're probably one of the "last four in"
UNI and ILSU - win and are in, lose and are out

The biggest thing is going to be USD. If they beat SDSU, they're in. If they lose though...they'll be 7-4 finishing the season with 3-straight losses and 4 out of their last 5 as losses. YSU in 2013 did a similar thing, went 8-1, then lost three straight, finished 8-4 (12-game season) and missed out on the playoffs. The committee does seem to like momentum and doesn't like it if a team "backs into" the playoffs by losing their last few and being on the bubble.

Because of that situation with USD, I think that if ISU and USD both win (and assuming UNI and WIU both win), then we'll see 6 in it for the first time.
If ISU wins and USD loses, I think 7-4 ISU has a better claim on an at-large spot than 7-4 USD and you should get it and they may choose to leave USD out in favor of someone else.

So essentially...win and you're in.

Anyway, that's my view.

hey Lawson .. always glad to have you chiming in .. you are an MVFC and FCS fan and advocate.

so while I 100% agree with your view on this, I have maybe 30% confidence in the FCS committee to pick 6 teams from MVFC as of today, if USD, UNI, WIU, and ISU all win .. just getting a vibe that tells me they are opposed to giving MVFC 6 teams.

My view after us getting screwed in 2011 .. kicking and screaming after it happens does nothing for the team getting screwed. Time to draw attention to this is in the weeks leading up to it. My hope is people like AD Lyons and Patty V have people who are paying close attention to this stuff, including this fan board, and other forums.

So to AD Lyons and Patty V ... If UNI and ISU wins, MVFC should have 6 teams in playoff ... period. Even if USD loses .. 7-4 with their SOS is a playoff resume, even if they lost 3 straight to very good teams.

Any MVFC team with at least a 7-4 record that gets left out should file a collusion suit against the NCAA selection committee. With that said; SDSU, NDSU, SD, WIU, UNI (with win), and ILST (with win) should all be in.

The coaches poll and stats poll has been hating on UNI this year. Its been tough going for the Panthers to get ranked. They are 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the MVFC. Their losses are to FBS Iowa State, nationally ranked Western Illinois, Southern Utah, and NDSU. For me, if a UNI somehow loses to Indiana State in Cedar Falls, only one 6-5 MVFC team get in. That is the Panthers.

If UNI at home is the team that makes InSU 1-10 instead of 0-11 they'd be a VERY hard sell at 6-5.

As far as your views on this year's polls I think the FCP especially has tried to keep the MVFC from getting the attention it should for 6 teams. After the South Dakota win the Redbirds went up 8 spots in the STATS and only 3 in the FCP. The only reason they shot up after the YSU game was because the next 7 teams ahead of them lost that week.

that and FCP has NDSU 5th for losing to a top 8 team on road .. same 9-1 record as the 3 teams feasting off patsy filled schedules ... JSU, SHSU, and UCA .. FCP is doing its worst job ever this year. Little rhyme or reason to their poll .. NC A&T is right behind NDSU .. are you f-ing kdding me with that ?????

FCP = Fake Coaches Poll .. or maybe their just trolling us all.
